16 years ago this morning, David Edward Jersey Jr. went off to the spirit in the sky. This year’s anniversary holds a little more significance, because he passed away about two months before @cjersey57 and I turned 16 — which means he’s been gone longer now than the entire time we had with him growing up.

Two weeks ago, I went to visit Dad’s grave for the first time in years. It was refreshing to sit in the grass and shoot the shit with my old man, even if he couldn’t answer back. I feel like we would have grown so much closer these past 16 years, and he would have evolved from a parent to a friend.

It’s hard to think about everything he has missed. His oldest granddaughter is a bright, sweet soul who starts kindergarten in the fall. His youngest granddaughter is a firecracker who loves her daddy’s punk music in the car, just like I loved listening to his old Ramones ‘Mania’ and They Might Be Giants ‘Flood’ CDs. His wife kicked cancer in the ass for the second time and is loving on those grandbabies every single day. His twin boys graduated from UT, established careers in their respective fields and are pursuing the most they can get out of this fleeting life.

I know he would be proud of all of us, and I wish more than anything that Lily and Carolina could know their Grandpa Dave. He was truly one of a kind, and I miss him every day! by @fjersey23
