“Just following up…” kills more deals than silence.
If you’re still writing that, you’ve already lost the buyer’s attention.

I used to be a perfectionist with follow-up.
Crafted the perfect email. Rewrote it 6 times so it fits to each client relationship. Waited days before hitting send.

The result?
No replies. No momentum. No bookings.

Then I had a lightbulb moment.
One of my industry hotel colleagues sent a 4-line follow-up email and got a response in under 10 minutes.
Same buyers. Different results.

What changed?

The colleague’s message did one thing most salespeople forget:

It made the buyer feel like continuing the conversation was easy, relevant, and valuable.

Most follow-ups are too vague, too slow, or too generic.

Here’s what works instead:
✅ Personal anchor — remind them of what you discussed
✅ Commercial value — mention the client type or benefit
✅ Clear next step — give them ONE simple action to take

Buyers are overwhelmed after shows.
Your job is to cut through the noise with clarity, context, and purpose.

Want the exact email templates my hotel clients use to double their reply rates?

📩 Comment template I’ll send you the 10-Minute Follow-Up Template Pack

Skip the awkward check-ins. Start real conversations.

Fifteen years. Hospitality, SaaS, fintech. Berlin, Frankfurt, Paris, London.
One pattern followed me through all of it.

The meeting was never the problem.

The follow-up was.

I would leave a conference or meeting with a stack of business cards and real momentum, then land back at my desk and watch both go cold.

Three weeks later I would write a generic email from memory and wonder why nobody replied.

The card was never the deal. The follow-up was.

So I built CardToClose.

One photo of a business card. One voice memo after the meeting. Before I leave the building, I have a CRM-ready contact, a structured meeting report and a follow-up that actually reflects the conversation we just had.

Not a template. Not three weeks late.

Two minutes, on the floor.

I am building this in public from here. Follow along if you want to see it happen.

What is the longest you have ever let a warm lead sit before following up?

💬 “Why did you leave such a great sales job?”

I get asked that a lot.
The truth? I loved hotel sales. I still do.
But what lit me up wasn’t the deals — it was the people behind them.

I saw too many talented salespeople second-guess themselves.
Too many teams struggling with training that didn’t stick.
And too many leaders juggling strategy, admin… and coaching.

So I made a choice:
To leave the desk and coach the teams I used to work with.

Now, I help hotel sales teams grow in confidence, clarity, and consistency — using training that’s built around their real leads, challenges, and market.
Not off-the-shelf.

Not once-and-done.
Just practical coaching that fits around your operations — and actually works.

🎙 FLS HOSPITALITY UNLOCKED — Episode 1

FLS is committed to opening the doors of fashion and luxury to our community. This summer, we're shining a spotlight on Hospitality through a podcast series hosted by @theluxeanalyst.

For this first episode, we had the privilege of meeting Ms. Franziska Lein (@fl_consultancy), who shared over 15 years of expertise in luxury hospitality. Her extensive experience across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, leading sales for Mandarin Oriental and The Set Hotels, gives us access to truly invaluable insight.

This episode explores the resilience it takes to return to a field you had briefly left, the preparation such a comeback requires, and how essential relationships are in making that shift possible.

Thank you very much, Ms. Franziska Lein, for your trust and your time.

See you next week.

Episode 1 of Hospitality Unlocked is live 🎧

My first podcast and one I’m genuinely proud of.

Earlier this year I sat down with Devanjali Kesarwani, Head of Corporate Events at FLS ESSEC, to record Hospitality Unlocked a five-episode series on luxury hotel sales, careers, and what this industry really demands.

Devanjali is 21. And from our very first conversation, I was struck by her professionalism, the quality of her thinking, and her ability to ask exactly the right questions something many seasoned professionals never quite master. She has a remarkable career ahead of her, and I’m proud to have been her first podcast guest.

In Episode 1, I share the story behind FL Hospitality Consulting how, as a mom of two who still had so much to give back to hospitality, I built the Sales Trip Playbook: a clear system for how to prepare, ask the right questions, follow up, and nurture an account into real pipeline.

Because here’s the truth most teams miss:

Relationships open the door. But only results keep them open.

Three things I’d tell anyone starting out in hospitality sales:

→ Learn to sell before you try to lead — commercial confidence outlasts every job title.
→ Ask for the next step — „lovely to meet you, let’s stay in touch“ is not sales.
→ Don’t wait to feel ready — readiness is discovered by doing, and by failing.

Five episodes. Real conversations. No filter.

The Fashion and Luxury Society (FLS) is a pan-European student movement founded in February 2025, opening the doors of the fashion and luxury industries to the next generation.

I have been quieter than usual these past two weeks.

Two reasons.

My daughter needed me full time. That came first. No apologies for that.

And behind the scenes I have been building something I genuinely believe fixes one of the most consistent problems in sales or anyone
meeting people and work on opportunities or partnerships.

You meet the right people. At conferences, trade shows, networking events, client visits, roadshows. You have the right conversations. You leave with a stack of business cards and real momentum.

Then the desk takes over.

The follow-up that should have gone out the next days gets written three weeks later if at all. The warm lead goes cold. The opportunity disappears not because the meeting was bad but because nothing happened after it.

That is the problem CardToClose solves.

One photo of a business card. One 60-second voice memo. A CRM-ready contact, a structured meeting report, and a personalised follow-up email draft in two minutes, wherever you are, before your next conversation starts.

If you want to be among the first to test it, drop a comment below and I will be in touch taken in Dubai,UAE by @fl_consultancy

Paris. No French. Meetings with Chanel, LVMH, Cartier.

And I stopped trying to impress.

I was unknown in the market. Every meeting felt like walking into a room where everyone already knew the rules except me.

Then came Chanel. They were planning a booking around the upcoming fashion show.

I could have tried to sound more fluent than I was. More polished. More confident.

Instead I stopped talking and started listening.

Really listening. Because with a language barrier, listening wasn’t just good practice. It was survival.

They opened up. The conversation stopped being a pitch and became a real exchange.

I couldn’t out-talk the room. So I learned to out-listen it instead.

The teams that convert aren’t the ones with the best pitch. They’re the ones who ask the best questions and actually listen to the answers.

You don’t need to be the most fluent person in the room. You need to be the most curious one.

A yellow cab. Manhattan. Midnight. That was the night I stopped hoping and started building.

Back-to-back meetings. Full days. Every single conversation went nowhere.

Eyes wandering off during my presentation.
“The hotel doesn’t have a strong opening reputation.”
“It’s not the right location for our clients.”
“We won’t be proposing this one.”

One after another. All day.

By meeting ten, sitting in that cab at midnight, I started questioning everything.

People had warned me. That I didn’t have US experience. That I should stick to the markets I already knew.

I had ignored them and gone anyway.

But sitting there, exhausted, I wondered if they had been right.

And then something shifted.

I looked out the window at Manhattan and made a decision.

I was not going to let clients who were clearly not my right fit dictate what I was or wasn’t capable of.

The problem wasn’t my pitch. The problem wasn’t my hotel. The problem wasn’t me.

The problem was I was sitting in front of the wrong buyers.

That night I stopped trying to convince people who weren’t ready. And started focusing entirely on finding the ones who were.

Every framework I teach today is built on that one realisation: their “no” is never about you. It’s about fit.

What was the moment that changed how you showed up in sales?

Most hotel pitches lose the room in the first 10 seconds. Here’s the 30-second fix.

If you’re a Director of Sales and Marketing and your team is pitching at trade shows this is worth reading before the next one.
Because the problem isn’t the product. It’s leading with the wrong thing.

I was travelling with LHW at an AMEX Showcase in Asia.

One hotel after another presenting to the same room of luxury travel advisors.

Then one team stood up and did what I see more often than I should.
Slide by slide. Location. Room size. Michelin Star restaurant. Spa opening hours.

No context. No connection. No answer to the one question every advisor in that room was silently asking:

What does this mean for my clients?

By slide three the room had checked out.
Not because the hotel wasn’t extraordinary. It almost certainly was.
But features without context are just facts. And facts don’t book rooms.

Here’s what loses the room in 10 seconds:
❌ Leading with location before establishing relevance
❌ Listing features instead of translating them into client outcomes
❌ Talking about the hotel instead of talking about the buyer

Here’s the 30-second fix:
✅ “I work with [who you help] to deliver [your distinct experience].”
✅ “We’re known for [key differentiator] “
✅ “which is perfect for [their client need].”

That’s it.
Three lines. One job. Give the buyer a reason to lean in, not switch off.

The pitch isn’t about your hotel.
It’s about what your hotel does for their client.

Get that right in 30 seconds and the rest of the conversation takes care of itself.

Full Queen’s Guard costume. Heart pounding. Elevator doors opening.

That was the moment I understood personal brand.

Virtuoso Week 2017. Las Vegas. We had just joined as a hotel partner and no one in the US market knew us.

I had spent months doing back-to-back sales trips. Polished pitch. Big smile. It wasn’t working.

At Virtuoso you get 5 minutes per advisor. No time to go deep. No time for a presentation.

Your only job: give them a reason to continue the conversation after the show.

So I wore the costume.

Full uniform. Bearskin hat. The whole thing.

The elevator doors opened. The room stopped.

They remembered me. Not just the costume. Me. My words. My property.

One bold, intentional moment did what months of careful positioning hadn’t.

You don’t need a Queen’s Guard costume.

But before your next show, ask yourself this:

In a room where everyone is trying to stand out the same way, what is your reason for them to remember you when it’s over?

That’s the real pitch. Everything else is just 5 minutes. by @fl_consultancy
