My guitar teacher **Richard Lawrence** was VERY well connected! 🎸

This is Richard with the legendary **Paco de Lucía** — for me, the greatest flamenco guitarist of all time. I honestly doubt we will ever see another guitarist quite like him.

Richard was an extraordinary guitarist in his own right. He also had an incredible ear: he could listen to recordings by Paco and many other great guitarists and painstakingly write the music down in beautifully crafted notation and tablature. I’m incredibly fortunate to have all of those books today.

I was even more fortunate to have Richard as my teacher. A lot of what he taught me all those years ago still influences the way I play and the way I teach my own classical and flamenco guitar students today.

There was just one slight problem with this treasured photo… Richard had cut it into a circle to use on the front of one of his music books! 😆

So I gave the original photograph to AI and asked it to reconstruct the missing areas while keeping the original picture intact. Swipe to see the circular original and the restored version. It even reconstructed Richard’s missing hand and completed the table!

Two guitar heroes of mine in one photograph. ❤️🎸

🎸 Malagueña – Sabicas

A short excerpt from the legendary Sabicas, one of the greatest traditional flamenco guitarists of all time.

His artistry, technique and musicality helped shape flamenco guitar for generations to come. It is always a privilege to play music inspired by such a remarkable maestro.

I hope you enjoy this short tribute.

A short clip inspired by the incredible El Amir, whose musicianship, creativity and passion for flamenco have been a huge influence on my own playing.

This Farruca features one of my favourite falsetas and captures some of the strength, character and rhythmic drive that make this palo such a pleasure to play.

I was fortunate enough to study with El Amir and continue to draw inspiration from his approach to flamenco guitar.

Hope you enjoy this short performance!

🎸 Caramba – Part 1
One of the most enjoyable pieces in the classical guitar repertoire, Caramba by Bartolomé Calatayud combines beautiful melodies with a distinctly Spanish flavour.
This is Part 1 of a series exploring the piece. Whether you're learning classical guitar yourself or simply enjoy listening, I hope you enjoy the journey.
Have you played any music by Calatayud? Let me know in the comments!

Fernando Sor — Op.6 No.11 in E minor 🎸

Part 1 of this beautiful classical guitar study by Fernando Sor — one of the great composers for the instrument.

A piece full of elegance, expression and flowing melodic lines, and still hugely valuable for developing classical guitar technique today.

Full performance available on YouTube.

Soundcheck before today’s lesson 🎸🔥

A little Malagueña to get the fingers moving…
Looking forward to teaching this to one of my online students next week — such a powerful piece for developing control, dynamics and flair.

Flamenco fire meets classical precision.
