She said mahjong got her through happy and hard times.
A stranger's story in a Facebook group reminded me why I'm building Flamingo Mahjong. Not to sell tiles. To create tables where people can find their flock. 🦩

Help us choose our first collection
A: Geometric Zaojing
B: Flowing Lines
C: The Nine-Colored Deer
We're designing our first Dunhuang-inspired mahjong collection—and you get to help choose the direction. 🦩

Three options, three stories from a thousand-year-old cave:

A. Geometric Zaojing — ancient ceiling patterns, simplified
B. Flowing Lines — the movement of silk and wind
C. The Nine-Colored Deer — a legend of kindness

What a 1,000-year-old ceiling taught me about design.

A thousand years ago, someone painted a masterpiece on a cave ceiling.

I found it in Dunhuang—and it's changing how I design mahjong tiles.

The ancient designers understood something we often forget: restraint creates elegance. A strong center. Calm symmetry. Borders that frame without shouting.

Now I'm translating those principles onto a small rectangle of mahjong tile. Not copying. Learning.

Swipe to see the patterns that inspired our next designs. Full story in my Substack—link in bio.
