Life presses on.

For everybody who feels guilty they let their garden go because of the heat. For the people like me who have only watered their garden 2 or 3 times in the last month. For those who wish they had done more... life presses on.

Through heat and drought conditions, there has still been good harvests for me. Bug issues, disease and fungus that has claimed many plants - my garden has still provided for me. Food still grew. Sunflowers hit 10 feet tall to give me the stalks for next year. The birds found food with the seeds.

The ADHD cycle of burnout and overwhelming "this is too much to do so I will do nothing" is prevalent with me throughout the gardening season. The "I need to do it all to catch up on what I didnt do for the last couple weeks" obsession. The "wow that is almost dead", the over ripe tomatoes that fell, the plants that shouldn't have made it - still continue to surprise me with their resilience.
Life will always find a way. Be comforted that whatever your garden did was enough. Whatever you found motivation to do, was enough.

Aquavia Lumina is by far the coolest, most amazing event I have ever seen. Using some brilliantly, masterminded effects they make you feel like you are underneath water and are looking up at the waves. My brother called this a "bucket list, must see event." We saw it the first week it opened, and go every year when we travel for vacation.

Ladies and gentlemen!
I present to you : Gardening with ADHD.
There are harvested herbs that need processed tomorrow before they die.

We have concrete evidence of the chaotic ADHD mind - potting soil and pots that are currently at the "I gotta put those away /but not before I wash them and sort them and arrange them and put up the plant tags / oh and that stick/oh and that/ why is that here" [ wanders off].... phase of "chaotic gardening with the easily distracted. "

We have old soil from now dead transplants that needs to be re-purposed for the grow bags. Transplants that are desperate to go outside. Peppers love humidity. More transplants.

["Let's go harvest more herbs!"] says my brain as I stare at all the laundry baskets and turn on the dehydrator at 11pm.

Oh ADHD. You make life such a struggle. Slowly I get it all reeled back in and get my house cleaned again, but dang, trying to accomplish a task that takes other humans 30 minutes while it takes me 3 hours - is so frustrating.

I would just like to take a moment to say... I grew this celery from seed. This beautiful, unbelievable, cant-believe-I-freaking-did-this celery. I started it back in February, and carefully and even sometimes neglectfully cared for the seedlings. They are planted in several spots around the garden, but - STALKS. It's actually growing stalks, instead of all leaves. I am so excited!!! by @flamingphoenix32

As the temps start to get colder in the evenings,I decided to go ahead and harvest this ginger planter. I've grown ginger for a few years now, using ginger rhizomes that I grab at my grocery store in spring.

I use the pre-soak method and soak the rhizomes for 24 hours in a bowl of water to wash off any waxy coating. This would have been applied by the farmer to prevent premature sprouting at the store. To help it start to develop green nubs and break dormancy so it can start to grow, there are two ways that I have used.

First, I have used the damp paper towel that I fold nicely in a gallon zip bag and place 2 or 3 rhizomes on the towel in a dark place. I check the bag and redampen the towel if needed. I sometimes just make it up as I go, so long as it doesn't start to grow mold. The other way is to just plant the rhizomes in a planter making sure you give them lots of room to spread out. Ginger grows horizontally so planting parallel withbthe green nubs up, is a good tip.

It takes many many months before even the baby ginger is large enough to harvest, but the coolest thing is that it regrow itself! So all you do is harvest the little pink baby ginger that grows on top of the rhizome that was planted and the parent will regrow itself! Ginger grows a taproot that is imperative to it, so I am always super careful when I dig out clumps to harvest.

I am gonna dry the baby ginger, and ginger leaves, freeze the stalks for another purpose and then replant the parents in the last picture! After new soil and planting these guys, they will be coming inside until next year!
