Happy Saturday. I’ve been going through all the things I kept from the estate I liquidated. I’m going to be destashing most of it. I have a Facebook group called Flannery’s Estate Sale you should join if you want in on the goodies. I’ve got the first hundred things scheduled for tomorrow evening. It’s big feels time around here. Hi. Happy October. We just got back from Taos and Santa Fe, with Bubba.
Bubba is my uncle. He taught me how to make jewelry thirty years ago in Taos. He married us. He’s one of my favorite people and I love him so much. I also love New Mexico. It was a great trip (mostly. I am sick now and we drove into an insane hail storm and my car I’m so proud of buying got all fucked up).
Bubba lived at the Mable Dodge Luhan House in Taos in its hey day, when Dennis Hopper owned it. There was a reunion of sorts going on, and we were lucky to glom onto it. I got to hang out with actual legendary silversmiths who have lived legendary lives, and see what friendships that are older than me look like. It’s an honor to be adjacent to, truly. Also, Bubba doesn’t get out much these days (to put it mildly, iykyk) so spending time with him is extra special. God, he’s so funny and cool. BUT it was *I* who won the gold star for the best one liner of the trip. I’m not gonna tell you what it was because it was dirty and the setup was so organic and in the moment it could never translate. Just know I said the funniest thing to the funniest two people Josh and Bubba. So HA.
Also, I got to see some incredible art and architecture. Ate green chile. Met interesting and kind people. And that light. If you’ve never seen the light in New Mexico you’re missing out. There’s nothing like it. The smell of the desert after rain. A delight to the senses indeed. So nice to get that in my Book of Life, because the day to day of living in these times is really grinding me down and it’s hard. You know what else is hard? I can’t afford anything. So I’m gonna destash most of my personal collection of things I got from the estate I liquidated, starting Sunday. Join my Facebook group Flannery’s Estate Sale if you wanna get in on it. Also I’ll be posing new work of my own soon. I’ve been making cool shit, but it’s hard to create reels when it feels like I just throw them into an abyss and nobody sees ‘em. Blah blah.
Anyway. I hope everyone is doing OK, hanging in, or even thriving! Is anybody thriving? If so can I have some? You need some jewelry?

“Les Catacombes” inspired by my visit to the Paris catacombs. Each little bone hand fabricated and soldered in place, I lost count but there are over fifty. The mother of pearl skull was hand carved in Bali. The inscription on the back is Latin for “in memory of the Ancestors”. I really love this piece.

I’ve really been pondering life and death and existence, even more than usual lately. It gets heavy. So it’s nice to conjure up an actual sacred space, a tiny bit of devotion, filled with spirit, to carry around your neck and live with you. “Mirror Mirror Mirror” hand fabricated snakes surrounding an iolite sunstone with sparkling hematite in quartz droplet. I had originally planned on doing the two snakes with a different stone, a large silver obsidian. But after fiddling with it for a couple days nothing was right, and I was frustrated. Then, boom, this happened, and it could t be more perfect. I’ve been holding on to this glittering red marvel of a quartz for YEARS. I also love the shiny golden brass mirror on the back. I made a charm bracelet 😜😜😜 just in time for spooky season. One of my core childhood memories is obsessing over my mom’s charm bracelet. She never wore it and it wasn’t very full of charms but I loved it SO much. One of the things on it was a tiny functioning hourglass with tiny white sand inside. Magic. I threw a little caution to the wind with this one because it’s big and it’s got the open horseshoes but dang it. The open horseshoes are important, because they’re holding luck but also pouring some out to share. {So just be mindful of your big badass charm bracelet while wearing it.} I’m finishing up a couple more new things too, so keep an eye out. Happy Sunday, I hope everybody is doing OK. I made this piece in the days surrounding the new moon and eclipse this past week. I was in the middle of doing other things but was compelled to make this. It tumbled out of me. No measurements or sketches, just vibes. The brass got copper plated on accident but I kind of like it and didn’t remove it entirely so it’s got a two tone thing going on. Swipe to see Meatball posing adorably with it, she approves. I broke the opal in Neverending Lights. The equivalent of totaling the piece. You can especially see it on the back but to a jeweler it’s glaring. Please, do not suggest that I keep it like this, you have no idea how much worse that would make me fee (unless you are seriously wanting to bùý it) I should have known better than to build a piece of this caliber around a welo opal. One day I will find a lapidary artist who does custom facets and find a different type of stone, I have a few in mind. I haven’t been able to even post about this until now, I’m so upset about it.

Hardship, disappointment, and perseverance. Those are the words that came to mind, here we go again. Fuck.

And that the opal broke near the bat jesus heart and throat, ugh, poignant. I was tightening up the setting to put this in my sasalele and I heard the dreaded crack. Iykyk.

I built this piece as a sanctuary for those who want to end it. A place to come in and sit for a while, to be held and gather strength to keep going. I picked all of the symbolism on purpose: the bats, the lotus flower, the iris, the plums and plum blossoms, and the fireflies. I worked on this piece for three years. I haven’t shown it off very often because the meaning still breaks my heart. The alchemy of turning pain into beauty is hard and vulnerable work. I’ve got a lot of experience doing it.

I am, however, keeping the rest of my big pieces in ye olde shoppe, and if you have any questions email me. My heartbrokemagicspells id sure like to get them into the world and out of the dark. It is my way of saying “I get it, I understand, I’ve been there, I’m still going, and if I’m not? I know a place where we can go where the lights are always on and we can just be” Neverending Lights. Thirty years of my work! I’m celebrating!
