From Kansas City to Belfast, we're taking this energy overseas! THANK YOU everyone who came to the Dear City album release concert. Next stop Ulster Sports Club, 14 May with Kadesh Flow and Kemet Coleman rocking with the Belfast Groove Collective. LINK IN BIO for tickets. by @flaretharebel
@cityyearkc is on our champion swagger! Taking a moment to reflect on the increased support and enthusiasm that has been shown to City Year and the critical mentoring/tutoring supports to students provided by our AmeriCorps members. This was on full display during our Idealist Gala last April at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. It hasn't been an easy school year for any educator, but we are all in this together. Plus, I got the chance to show the mic handling skills stay sharp regardless if I am talking education equity or dropping bars! Much appreciation to everyone who continues to support City Year's work in schools and if you know an 18 to-25-year-old willing to do this impactful work with us, have them apply for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year from the link LINK IN BIO. #CYKC #EducationEquity #StudentSuccessCoach #AmeriCorps by @flaretharebel
On Halloween, there's always room for Hip Hop Bob Ross! Although this track, "Happy Clouds (Bob Ross Flow)" ft. @oboikong dropped awhile ago, it deserved an album so now you can listen to it on my latest record, Dear City - streaming everywhere. After growing my hair out during COVID folks started calling me Bob Ross. I took it as a compliment and made a whole song and video from the inspo! That's what we call a "happy accident". Dear City, you can't forget your roots. KCMO is my hometown that raised me, but I was born in Brooklyn, which is why the Brooklyn Bridge is on the cover of my album. My parents met in Brooklyn in 1975 working with a camp for inner-city youth and proceeded to get active in many ways, which included attending college, tutoring students, camp counseling, raising three kids, etc. My father also got into community organizing helping to advocate for improvements to neighborhood grocery stores, getting the city to replace street signs for neglected city blocks, and raising funds for housing developments in blighted areas. Eventually, three hip hop heads were born, the oldest (@sikestyle), middle bro (@joelshafer), and finally me in the fall of 1986. We lived at the corner of E. 18th St & Courtelyou Rd. in Flatbush, Brooklyn, NY before moving to Kansas City, MO but the habitat of BK remains in me. It always just feels right whenever I get visit New York. 🗽 by @flaretharebel
