Orthofeet, Inc. was established in 1984 in New Jersey by brothers Ron Bar and Michael Bar. Their patented orthotic molds directly to the shape of the foot using expandable polyurethane foam activated by water. The sneaker is specifically designed to shape to the contour of the foot to enhance both fit and comfort. This medical footwear company even has education for many conditions (i.e. flat feet, plantar fasciitis, etc.) on their website. Air Jordans were designed for Michael Jordan by Nike in 1984 (released to the public in 1985) by Peter Moore. The NBA Commissioner David Stern banned Michael Jordan from wearing his Air Jordan 1 because it went against the NBA's dress code. Nike paid the fines for Jordan when he kept wearing them anyway and those shoes got nicknamed "Banned". The two grandsons of a spiked running shoe maker named Joesph William Foster, created a company called Reebok in 1895. The name was after the African Gazelle. In 1978, Paul Fireman found Reebok at an international trade show and bought the company by 1981. #reebok by @flatfootedballerina

Robert Greenberg founded Sketchers in 1992 and went public in 1999. Sketchers are comfortable and casual. My best friend's favorite pair of sneakers are his blue lightweight Sketchers. They are comfortable for long walks and support his feet. In 2014, Sketchers was recognized as a "hot buy" by Forbes Magazine. #sketchers #sketchersshoes by @flatfootedballerina

I wear New Balance shoes religiously, as a flatfooted person who has to stand for long periods of time for my line of work. The New Balance company was actually originally founded as a small arch support company by William J. Riley before it began manufacturing shoes (and eventually apparel) decades later. #newbalance by @flatfootedballerina
