Hello everyone!

I am proud to announce that my junior recital “Third Spaces” will be happening Saturday March 28th, 2026!

This recital has been a long time in the making, and I’m so excited to show everyone what I’ve been working on for the past year! The general theme of the recital centers around community and how it helps us when things get tuff. Community is one of the most important foundational values to me, especially as a musician, because I’ve seen first hand how wonderful and amazing it is when people in a community come together to give back. It’s basically one big love letter to the communities that have helped me over the years!

Admission is free of charge and it starts at 1PM in the recital hall at NIU’s School of Music. A livestream link will also be available around the time of the performance. Hope to see y’all there! ‼️🗣️🦭💯🥁

I went to Milwaukee this weekend to visit my partner and it reminded me that I took some photos of the Pabst theater back in April. I had meant to make a post about it, but never got around to it until now. I’ve only been outside of it, never gone to a concert there (although I’d like to) but since Milwaukee is my favorite city why not make a post?

The Pabst Theater is one of the most popular music venues in Milwaukee. The theater hosts about 100 events per year, and it’s not limited to only music. Stand up, Q&A’s, live podcasts, and other various community events are also often held here. It was built in 1895 and is the fourth oldest continuously operating theatre in the US. It is also designated as an official landmark by the city of Milwaukee, a State of Wisconsin historical site, and was even designated as a national historical landmark in 1991. Some nicknames for the venue include “The Pabsts” and the “Grande Olde Lady” due to it being the oldest venue in Milwaukee’s theater district. The theater contains a proscenium style stage with two balconies and has a max capacity limit of 1300 people*.

Fredrick Pabst, a German-American beer brewer known for making the brand of Pabst Blue Ribbon, bought the Nunnemacher Grand Opera House from Jacob Nunnemacher in 1890 and renamed it to “Das Neue Deutcsche Standt-Theater” (The New German City Theater). An arson attack left the building damaged in 1893 and later destroyed in a fire in January 1895, so Pabst had the theater rebuilt later on in 1895. The architect who constructed the theater was a man named Otto Strack and designed it to be similar to European Opera houses, specifically in the style of the German Renaissance Revival era (don’t worry, it’s fire proof!). Later on the building would undergo several renovations starting in 1928 and in 1976, after a long decline in popularity, it was restored to its original style. (See second slide for more info)

*If I ever go to a concert here I’ll do a more detailed post about the inside as it’s actually quite an interesting building

In 1989, they added on a colonnade (classical architecture style bridge to put it simply) that connected it to the Milwaukee Center (now taken in Pabst Theater by @fleaplaysdrums

For the past 4 summers, I’ve dedicated 5 days in July to helping out at NIU’s Percussion Camp as a TA. It has been a truly fantastic and wonderful experience, and I am so grateful to have taken part in it every year.
But unfortunately since I will be graduating in the spring, this past week was my last time being a TA for the camp. I enjoyed my time here very much, and am grateful to have a great gaggle of students, colleagues, and staff to work with each year. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the camp, and I hope someday I can comeback and teach a class! Be what you came here for, and go dogs ‼️🥁 taken in NIU School of Music by @fleaplaysdrums

Sunflower- Vampire Weekend
This past week I’ve had the pleasure of being a TA at NIU’s annual percussion camp! This is my fourth (and unfortunately last, sappy post coming later) year TAing for this camp, and I always have a great time! On Thursday night, we had the pleasure of performing for our campers, and this amazing arrangement of Sunflower made by @raytaydrums was one of the pieces we performed! This video is from one of our rehearsals as I couldn’t record during the actual concert. Enjoy! taken in NIU School of Music by @fleaplaysdrums

Red Orchestra (Le Concert rouge) by Raoul Dufy (French, 1877-1953) is an oil painting in a series of orchestral compilations that Dufy made to express his love of music. He worked on this series 1946 to 1949 and made many paintings depicting different musical styles such as mariachi music (The Mexican Musicians and The Mexican Orchestra, 1951) and still life images of pianos and violins. Dufy was inspired by the Fauve artists use of bold lines and various colors that he saw at the 1905 Salon ‘dAutomne, major annual art exhibit in Paris. This painting now hangs at the Milwaukee Art Museum in Milwaukee, WI.

Happy New Years! I hope this year is filled with glorious amounts of fun and paid gigs for all of you! I’ve recently come to the realization that I only have one New Year’s resolution and that is to try and master all of stick control by George Lawrence Stone. I’ve played out of this book many times for warm ups and to work on technical things, but I’ve never played through all of it, so I figured that would be my New Year’s resolution. It’s a very important book for all drummers imho, and has helped me build my technique. I also have been wanting to get into video editing, and I’m proud to say this is the first video I’ve edited! I used I Movie but ngl I hate it so if anyone has any better recommendations, please let me know! Anyways enjoy my poorly edited video of me playing Page 5 (single strokes, exercises 1-4) of Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone! by @fleaplaysdrums
