“All I can do is write narratives! That is how I survive this vicious world.” - Hans 🖋

Once upon a time, I was a little one, and my favorite fairy tale was The Little Mermaid. I have seen the Disney version of this story SO. MANY. TIMES.

Little did I know how much joy that story would still be bringing me a decade or so later!

So now, to honestly be able to say that I was honored by the chance to portray Hans Christian Andersen—the author of The Little Mermaid—and portray the heartbreak and apparently endless pain he endured though his life—while giving him the happy ending he deserved to get—It’s simply a dream come true!

Actually, it’s a fairy tale. 📖

This show taught me beautiful things.
I learned about being human.
I learned about being not-human!
I learned about losing people.
I learned about finding new ones!
I learned about love.
I learned it’s more complicated than we think.
I learned people love differently.

Some people love like water flows.
Some people love like grass grows.

Sometimes you are the rain,
Giving back to the world.

Sometimes you have to be the sea,
Receiving all that the world wants to give.

Most of all, i learned that sometimes,
Hans,
You do get the happy ending 🐚

This show also features much referential texts, quotes, and inspired vignettes from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Brokeback Mountain, Godzilla, Frankenstein, and Euphoria Season 2, an many more (I’ll make a cohesive list some day).

Special thanks to Sheila McKenna, DT Burns @d.t.burns for fostering this work in its creation to capstone! Theo Pittsburgh drag community for accepting my strange, referential art with open arms (and supporting this strange, referential show), Jaxa Froot for making this show happen and running everything tech, my friends near and far for putting up with me in the manic phase of my life this show is based on 💀, Tyler the Creator for writing amazing, influential multimedia queer art, Ash, for being so lovely and normal, and “Victor” for “inspiring some of my best art.” (Let’s put it that way)
•
I was always too good for you. So now, I’ll focus on what I deserve.
•
My capstone happened and it was so amazing! Thank you thank you thank you for all who came out to support it, all my drag and theatre peers, and the professors I somehow dragged into Ptown Bar. I can’t wait to see how this show grows through the years, this PTOWN performance was an amazing step.

Some haze, some color, some light.

Had a fun and unique shoot with THE @fleemarcoe

I love these results. (We used half a can of Febreeze for one of these shots. Can you guess?)
