Highlights from our weekend in Paro, where we got some much needed R&R after our busy week in Thimphu. Had an unforgettable experience of trekking to 3100m to the infamous Taktsang (Tigers nest monastery), something none of us will ever forget. taken in Paro Taktsang Temple 'Tigers Nest' by @fleenster

Highlights from our week in Thimphu Bhutan at the National Veterinary Hospital. There to provide a week of training in veterinary radiology, abdominal ultrasound and clinical pathology with the support of Vets Beyond Borders Aus and the Crawford fund. Had the pleasure of trying local food, meeting all the local vets and dignitaries, and seeing some famous Thimphu sites. taken in Thimphu, Bhutan by @fleenster

What a mind-blowing experience. We are so lucky to have the opportunity to visit this country, meet the local vets, and then come and see this out-of-this-world monastery built at 3100m. It honestly looks like it’s grown out of the cliff face. taken in Paro Taktsang by @fleenster

Trip of a lifetime, three whole weeks with these amazing people in both Chile and Mexico. Can’t believe how quickly 3 weeks goes when you’re having the time of your life.
And no, @neng888 is not my real sister, we got asked that about 3 times on this trip.

It has been on my travel list for a long time, finally visited the museum and previous home of Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Juan O’Gorman. The incredible collection of massive Quema de Judas (papier mache figures traditionally burned on Holy Saturday) was fantastic. by @fleenster

Up close and personal with the Los Cuernos (horns, along with a sword, a leaf to the left) of the Torres del Paine national park. Small human (me) for scale. Another moment of feeling very small and insignificant, just what a chaotic mind needs.

9 hours of hiking, 21km, 900m elevation to see the infamous Torres del Paine. Standing in front of these magnificent towers made me reflect on some things.

I turned 43 last July. I am my dad’s age when he died of intestinal cancer. I walked in his footsteps and became a vet, he was one too.

When you lose a parent young, sometimes you (well, I did) subconsciously think that the same will happen to you. I don’t think I ever thought I would even make it to this age.

I realised that his death is probably what pushes me to adventures like this. I want to do as much as I can of what I love, go to places that make me feel small & insignificant because of how grand they are. I think these are places and experiences that bring me incomparable joy, and I imagine they would have brought him joy too, if he had the time or opportunity to do them in his short life.

Perhaps this is how I honour him and his memory (besides being a second generation vet in my family). taken in Torres del Paine National Park, Patagonia, Chile by @fleenster
