POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
i was halfway reading through the second Morisaki Bookshop series, and I knew the story was set in Jimbocho. That alone was reason enough to go. Even though it was raining and my sinusitis was flaring (cold weather hits me hard), i went anyway.

it was the only time i had, so i worked with what i got. i wanted to see the streets of books with my own eyes, plus Jimbocho was dubbed as the best neighborhood in Tokyo (Time Out 2025 list).

it was already night time and some of the bookstores don’t allow photo/video taking so gotta respect the house rules! (also when i returned from tokyo, i finally finished the ‘more days at morisaki bookshop’ and bawling my eyes out. if i had finished the book before my trip, the whole thing would be a tad more melancholy.)

I saw this coffee shop on my walk. It was late that night i assumed it was closing time. the manager was cleaning up the place but still, I crossed the road, said hello, and told her how much I adored the space and that I’d love to film around. She had the friendliest smile. I hope I didn’t misread her warmth. It’s a small, quaint spot with outdoor seating, camping-style—and two resident dogs. if there’s a chance i come back to this city, i’ll definitely visit this place and get their coffee.

6PM is my favorite hours, it’s like a checkpoint and beginning of second phase of a day. I love it so much to the point I always try to memorize 6pm as much as I can. It’s always different, only happen once never the same, but it repeats everyday. the original kelok sembilan (‘9 bend road’) was a narrow, winding road built between 1908-1914. century later, it was rebuilt into six bridges, with pillars reaching up to 60m above the ground. this new route navigates the steep mountain landscape more safely than the original nine bends. if you’re travelling between riau >< west sumatra, you’ll cross this bridge.

this video was taken february this year; i’ve posted the photos before, along with a longer photo essay on substack. my parents and i drove from pekanbaru to bukittinggi to visit my grandparents, both those who were still alive and those who had passed away, and my aunt who was undergoing chemotherapy.

i remember telling my parents that i wanted to take photographs of everyone while everyone still here.

today, 10 october 2026,
i’m editing this video with a heavy chest.
[trigger warning: death]

my grandfather (dad’s dad) passed away in june, just a week after my mom’s surgery. his heart gradually slowed before he passed peacefully. then, my aunt passed away in august, following complications after her battle with cancer. chemotherapy had reduced the cancer in size, but fluid had accumulated in her chest. she never came home after the surgery.

i was two hours away from meeting with CMO with a deck full of strategy, when i got that call from mom. she’s my favourite aunt. she’s been there since we were little. she even promised to be the head chef at my wedding and told me to find my person so she could be there.

what a rough year. for my mom and dad, especially. i wanted to help, but i’m helpless too.

today, i felt sad for so many reasons, so i started editing these videos to maximise my sad saturday.

anyway millions of people cross this red bridge, each carrying their own memories between riau and west sumatra. mine is this bittersweet one from last february. we stopped by the bridge side and pause to processed things, i grabbed my camera.

i love taking photos and videos of everything i see and everyone i love, in their candid moments and everyday lives. i am collecting evidence of the lives lived. taken in West Sumatra by @fleetingstill

looking back, it was a fine day, cloudy but sunny too, with few komorebi and huge chunky clouds. i rented a bike and rode along the coast of gurney bay in georgetown. and of course, taking a lot of photos every few meters so i can remember. i always love when i'm within vicinity of the coastline and there’s park and tall buildings too. it felt so layered. that's why i love coastal cities.

as always, every things i shared always from the distance past, never in real time.

i saw some people went ‘bring back posting 1 photo per post’ kinda thing, and i agree. it’s fun, like a little break from carousell and multi-scenes.

anyway this is 1 photo i really like from my past trip last year, when i was on my way from shanghai post museum to north bund. i walked past this pedestrian crossing and though it’s just a corner building with red canopy but i didn’t have this back home, i have to take photo!

also when i go to a city, i love being a fly on the wall, or butterfly on the side road. basically i just want to immerse and observing the people living the everyday life. truly slice of life at its core.

also, i love spotting the color red in the wild. one of my favourite composition is, any scene is instantly 100% better when there’s a color red/ orange in frame. even better if there’s a blue somewhere too. red/orange vs blue/green, color combination that’s forever best, for me.

quite vlog: documenting yet another my "first time" experience, this time was about when I took a ferry from Butterworth to Georgetown.

it's only 15 minutes ride and the weather was pleasant at around 5pm, so i wanted to remember it. (i uploaded the photo essay version months back icymi)

after spending half an hour got lost to find the right exit, i managed to get out from the tokyo station. the weather was flat gloom grey with strong wind and i remember i was sad that the weather was bad. this wasn’t exactly how i imagined seeing tokyo station for the first time. but i see a lot of people happily taking photos with the background

and that snapped me out of it.

i’ve never the person who gets to travel at the “perfect” time. most of the time, i just make the most of whatever i have, whenever i get the chance. plus i wasn’t alone, there’re hundred of people too that day. maybe there were one or two like me, when they only had the chance that week to visit, and they made the best out of it.

now almost a year later, here i am, finally trying to colorgrade the footage from that day when i saw the iconic tokyo station from across the road.

my weakness is still a flat, gloomy grey days sky; it’s so damn hard for me to bring the colours out of footage like this haha. but now that i look at it, and see the memories in different light: i went there and these were what i saw. that’s it.

photos i took when i went to the recently revitalized city park, (once went there 4 years ago and went again last month), it’s called ‘taman bendera pusaka’ now (formerly known as taman langsat), they reopened in march earlier this year. love that they kept the huge tall trees and made the space more open. they still have the ducks and the cats.

i wanted to read a book in the park, but i was wearing shorts and didn’t have a picnic blanket, i ended up circling the whole park with my camera and patting the city park cats i met, touch some grass, grounding, and hug trees. try it, it’s cathartic.

the weather was smoggy, but that’s what i had. i wanted to remember them as they are. and as always, everything is photographed with my sony a7iii with tamron 28-75mm lend, edited on lightroom. taken in Jakarta, Indonesia by @fleetingstill

i have so many memories stored in my hard disk. and i used to find so much joy in going through them, editing them, turning little moments into something beautiful.

but lately, the world just feels like shit. and where i’m at, indonesia, is literally on fire because of corporation greed. the government is helpless (iykyk). the economy is shit. and on a much more personal level, i’ve been dealing with things (grief of losing several family members, grief of a lot of things) that have made me question what the point of everything is.

and i find myself hesitating to look at the beautiful things. cause right now, sharing good-looking memories somehow feels like pretending everything is okay when it clearly isn’t (down to my personal level).

but what am i if i don’t express? i don’t want to pretend that things are okay. but i don’t want to only show the worst parts of being alive either.

this is my peak luteal phase speaking today, so to stop the rumination, i ascended from my bed rot and edited the footages from few weeks back when i was on my way to a cafe in central jakarta neighborhood.

tired, but need to be alive until things are going to be ok again. by continue making this silly little things is how i cope, for me.

if you read this far, please drop your current favourite book/ comfort book to read. (i don’t ask for recommendation, just curious what’s your comfort read!)

was just browsing through my classical music playlist and i have a quick idea, so i made a very short movie called ‘cross that road while we still have time’

picking music is equally important part of the video, mise en scene, it can make or break a scene.

like, this is just a mundane everyday scene, i filmed this sarinah crossing on 5 pm on last sunday, and pasting over an orchestral music kinda give a dramatic vibe buildup, then added a pondering statement (that can both have meaning in literally and figuratively sense)

all of these layers of extra stuffs in proper timed pacing make the basic scene felt a bit extra than usual street video.

so my point is, lots of variables to tinker and play around to make something mundane a bit less-mundane - so… play around. and this is not just about filming a scene.

a friend of mine once said that he believes coffee connects people, and i felt that.

for me, food and drinks have always been more than just functionality or fuel. they’re little vehicles for remembering moments, places, and conversations that happened around the table.

my friends irl know i always take photos and videos of what we eat and drink solely because someday i’ll want to remember who i was with, what we talked about, and how that moment felt.

so when my friend invited me to a private brewing session at a specialty coffee equipment store (not in a cafe), of course i happily swung by! the last time i saw him was when he’s doing barista takeover on jakarta coffee week event last year, so a catchup was long overdue. but beyond just coffee, it was also about watching him brought along people from different walks of life and sat us together, and letting coffee do what it did best: giving people something to talk about.

anyway, this is a recap of nine different beans, meeting new people, plenty of caffeine and conversations.
