Mama Lilian Ngoyi Illustration (2023).

Mama Masediba Lilian Ngoyi was one of the leading figures behind the movement for women's rights, as she and many others led the women's anti-pass march to the Union Buildings in Pretoria on the 9th of August 1956. This was considered to be one of the largest demonstrations to have ever taken place in South African history. Mama Lilian Ngoyi was said to be the one who knocked on Prime Minister Strijdom's door to hand over these petitions.

One of Mama Lilian Ngoyi's famous quotes that reads, “Men are born into the system, and it is as if it has been a life tradition that they carry passes. We as women have seen the treatment our men have – when they leave home in the morning you are not sure they will come back. We are taking it very seriously. If the husband is to be arrested and the mother, what about the child?”

Mama Lilian Ngoyi didn't just stand in place for South African women that day, but stood in place for everyone in South Africa, till this day. Her courage, strength and resilience is something I look up to as a black South African woman who is still surviving the difficulties of day-to-day living in this country. When I look back at revolutionary leaders Mama Lilian Ngoyi, who shamelessly and bravely took a stand, there is a stir in my spirit, a fire burning and a great hope for my country. We will see the fruits of the seeds that have been planted grow, all we need to do is to keep watering them (eachother).

My wish and vision is to see women of today, especially the youth, to take up that status quo, and step into the footsteps of women like Mama Lilian Ngoyi, to raise up that banner and then South Africa will be safe in women's hands.🦋

Illustration-art; Amarula is My Africa (2022).

A little advertising project I did for Amarula. It’s a great drink to be honest, and not just that, but the story behind the brand and its products are quite inspiring. Another thing that makes me proud to be South African, you should go check their website and all the cool things you can make with the drink and it’s different flavours!

Pastel; Genes are genes. (2021)

This one isn’t for sale, it was inspired by someone very close to my heart, my sister. A little birthday present which isn’t much but something. There’s a little story behind it that I feel is better if I keep to myself but for now, just admire it, assume the story and get lost in it. Btw, pastel is my favourite medium!

carving on wooden plank & colour (2018).

#carvingwood #art #eyes #fleurflordesigns So I used scissors to carve out these lines, it was honestly a very simple piece. I used a black permanent marker for the hair, used a blue pen for the eyes and a pencil for the eyebrows. by @fleurflordesigns

charcoal rusted hand (2018).

#charcoaldrawing #art #fleurflordesigns So this was an artwork that really got me out of my comfort zone, oil pastels is what I’m most comfortable with so having to work with charcoal was different. I used rusted metals for the background and just went over it with some charcoal. It took me about a month to finish but I absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. I’m really into physical touch because I think that really expresses a lot of what someone else is feeling so the hand symbolizes that. by @fleurflordesigns
