This was my final performance in 2020, unknowingly. Just before the world paused for COVID lockdown. Grateful for this video and the sweet reminder from a friend. Itโ€™s been a long time since Iโ€™ve danced, and Iโ€™m starting to feel the absence. Dance is what grounds me, what makes me whole and when I donโ€™t move, I lose touch with my body. Though Iโ€™ve been away from the scene for a while, Iโ€™m slowly reconnecting and i am excited to dance more often again soon. Lately, Iโ€™ve picked up a few gigs and danced at friendsโ€™ events because, honestly, they wonโ€™t take no for an answer. Itโ€™s humbling to see that people still find joy in my art. Huge thanks to Atash in Austin an incredible group of musicians who are now more like family. Theyโ€™ve been supporting me for nearly 16 years as a dancer, always inviting me to the most amazing gigs. Be a woman with a center. A strong sense of self is one of the most seductive things a woman can possess. The world cannot confuse a woman who knows herself. Disappointment happens. Feel it, learn from it, then return to yourself instead of building a home inside it. Success happens. Enjoy it and be grateful, but do not make achievement the only reason you feel valuable. Love happens. Give yourself to it. Let it change you, but do not lose yourself inside another person. Loss happens. Grieve, break, heal, and return to yourself instead of becoming the loss. Belong to yourself even when your heart wants something. Even when the world wants you. When life shakes you, let it reveal your roots. Be soft enough to receive and strong enough to walk away. Read poetry in the morning, negotiate contracts in the afternoon, and dance barefoot at midnight. Refuse to become a single story. Be a collection. Host a dinner, start a business, comfort a friend, and begin again. Cultivate a life that surprises even you. Let curiosity shape you more than approval ever could. Be difficult to summarize and impossible to exhaust. A library, a garden, a storm, a sanctuary. A woman without a center changes depending on the room. A woman with a center changes the room depending on which side of herself she brings. Range is how many notes you can play. โœจ47 trips around the sunโœจ This August I celebrated my Leo season with a little vacation. I flew to Montana to meet up with my birthday twin and dear friend of almost 18 years and together we road tripped through the mountains back to his home in Seattle, where my sister happens to live.
