Ask ChatGPT who’s the best [what you do] near you. Then ask Google. Then Perplexity.
You’ll usually hear one of four things. It sings your praises. It gets your name right but your hours and prices wrong. It recommends your competitor. Or it says nothing useful and sends people to a directory.
Your customers are already asking these questions, so you want to hear the answers before they do.
If AI comes up empty, check the basics first. Is the page indexed? Does it answer the question in plain words? Does the rest of your site link to it?

Your homepage gets the visitors. It almost never makes the sale.
The page that does is your money page. Your service page, your booking page, your product page. It’s where someone decides yes or no, and most businesses give it half the attention their homepage gets.

New month, who dis?
October me has stopped replying to three SEO habits.
Blogging on a schedule because someone said Google likes it. It doesn’t. Blog when a customer asks something your site can’t answer yet, then link that post to the service page you want found.
Watching the authority score in your SEO tool. That number belongs to the tool. Google doesn’t use it. Watch whether the right people are finding you and enquiring.
Adding an llms.txt file to get into AI answers. Google has said it doesn’t use it, and I can’t find an AI company that says it does.
Swipe for the short version of each. Then I dare you to clean out your blog closet and report back.

Lol you probably can’t see a thing in this one, so here are your steps!!
10 minutes for your SEO this week > This is what I check in Search Console when time is crunchy.
1. Compare the last 28 days to the 28 before. Am I being seen, and is Google moving me up or down?
2. Filter for searches that start with what, how or why. Those are real questions from real people, so they’re your next blog topics.
3. Check Indexing. If Google can’t see a page, it can’t rank it.

So … to wrap that chestnut up 😂
Ranking number 1 on Google still matters. It’s just worth less than it used to be.
Google now answers a lot of questions at the top of the page, so fewer people click through. Ahrefs found the top result loses 58% of its clicks when an AI answer shows up. Other studies say closer to 30%.
But it depends on what your customers search. “How to wash activewear” gets answered on Google and they’re gone. “Electrician Ferntree Gully” means someone needs help now, and they still click.

It’s not you, it’s 301. Today’s lesson: how to break up with a page.
You’ll need this the day you rename a service, clear out old blogs or move your site to a new platform. Each one can change a web address, and the old one is still out there in Google, in old emails and in someone’s saved links.
Delete it without a redirect and you’ve ghosted everyone who turns up. A 301 is the grown-up breakup. No drama, just a forwarding address.

School holiday guilt, anyone? Because my gwaaaad.

I love my little bumpkins buckets, but jeez wizzy, getting a thing done has been a whole other thing. Taking a minute to pause the SEO-y content, because ya’ll I’ve got burning questions - How are we doing this ?! Tell me your tips.

Wanting to grow your business, show up for your clients, then be in the room with your kiddos, actually in the play and not stressy mc-stressed. Showing them you can do both feels near impossible. But here we are. Two more days to go!

If anything, this has made me realise I need to make my business hum without me for 10 weeks of the year. I’m working on it and have a few ideas in the pipeline so you can all grow your organic traffic with my brain power transported magically into your computer. (😉) But for now, I’m scheduling the next few days of posts and pouring into my kiddos and doing the PM work shift to play catch up. As much as I’ve built this business for me, it’s for them too. To give them a life where they get me. ❤️

Google’s been quietly putting businesses into its AI answers. Now you can see if yours is one of them.
It’s free, inside Search Console, under Performance > Generative AI. It shows impressions only (no clicks yet), but you can see which pages, which countries and which days.
While you’re in there, check Settings > Search generative AI is set to Include. It’s on by default, but it’s worth making sure nobody switched it off.
