New butt chisel, 30mm (1 3/16") with standard size paring chisel handle. The wood is Pau Amarello, which I bought more than 10 years ago. Recently I went to my local wood store only to learn that it is not available anymore, due to CITES regulations.

The health issues are still going on, but once in a while I have some energy left to do some regular woodworking. One project on my list was to make a scroll sawn picture of Africa. The plan was to use all different kinds of wood types. Yesterday I finished the frame and now it's finally done. 👌

6mm (1/4") butt chisel. The wood of the handle is Coracao de Negro, a very hard and dense wood. It's tricky to turn and to sand but it's takes polishing very well. After a while it turns to a uniform deep dark brown color, almost black. It's also quite easy to find at the local finewood stores here. Unfortunately it cracks very easy during the drying proces, so its hard to find suitable pieces. I have made several sets out of this wood but decided to give up on it. Almost 3 out of 4 handles showed cracks during turning, making it not worth my time.

My personal set of screwdrivers, that I made in 2010. The steel parts came from old screwdrivers that I found at fleemarkets and second hand stores. Often with extremely ugly and worn out plastic handles. I made sure the screwdrivers were quality name brands before buying them. Then I took of the plastic handles, polished them and fitted new handles that I turned myself. This set has been serving me for 14 years, and the durability has surprised even myself. Its also fun to see how much further I am now quality wise compared to 14 years ago. These handles show features and errors that I would not accept anymore nowadays, but at that time it was my best shot. It's a great reminder that progress comes often slowly!

Some destructive testing has happened today. I have finally figured out a handle shape that I like. So now it's time to find the best way to attach the handles. The tang of the drawknive still needs some tweaking as well, since it's too big and wide now. Figuring out these details is time consuming work. But it's important, since after I have figured out these details the next production run will go way smoother and faster.

Draw knife in the making. The new made toolrest for the Sorby ProEdge performs well. With the additional supporting surface its way easier to grind these little draw knives.
