Love mysteries full of suspects?

Then pick up a copy of To Our Graves by Paul Nicholas Mason!

I got mine from @takecoverbooks in Peterborough.

The story is set at a private school in rural Ontario (near Kingston) and starts with a murder of a student.

If you love a book that keeps you guessing, you'll live this one. It's packed full of suspects. Is it a teacher? Another student? A vampire?

It also discusses the idea of whether the murder victim "deserved" it because of their wicked ways.

Love small town mysteries?

Then pick up a copy of Perilous Pins by Grace Bowen!

I got mine from @89main.ca in downtown Sundridge.

It follows a recent transplant to the small town of Blueberry Falls where she's struggling to find herself again after her divorce.

With a penchant for curiosity, when a dead body shows up her and her neighbour team up to try and solve the murder.

The story has all the classic mystery elements, a possible love interest, and plenty of suspects.

The Whispering by Rebecca Netley

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you need a little ghost story in your life then pick up a copy of this book!

The story takes place in the 1860s on an island off the coast of Scotland. It follows a young lady full of loss but hoping to leave it all behind and become a nanny on the island.

What she finds terrorizes her.

Minding a little girl named Mary who doesn't speak, in a grand spooky home, she learns of the wealth of loss of others in the house, including Mary's.

When things start happening that test her belief in ghosts, and who to trust, things spiral. Her bond with Mary grows tight but can she save her from the wicked fate of her twin?

I absolutely loved Rebecca's prose! It was easy, poetic and pulled me in and along for the wild ride. Full of emotion, love and loss, and how to trust yourself.

The Omega Factor by Steve Berry

If you loved the Da Vinci Code you'll love this book!

Blending history, like stories of Joan of Arc and a famous painter with the truth of the Virgin Mary, a nun and her ex-fiance come together to solve the mystery, but will they be able to before a rouge group from the Vatican destroy it all and everyone in their wake?

I loved the fast pace but intriguing history interwoven throughout, while not overwhelming the present. The cast of characters are equally intriguing.

Book Review of Murder At the Retreat by Judy Keightley

Small town Ontario mystery alert!

Keightley brings big city crime to a small village on the west coast of Ontario. A couple's retreat goes from fun to horror when one person is killed. Rose always seems to find herself amongst the murder and mayhem in Keightley's series Rose Blair Murder Mysteries. So, it's no surprise it's her and her husband that find the body and then caught up in a layered mystery of drugs, affairs, and murder.

This was the first book that I'd read in her series and it was cute. It has all the classic elements of a small town mystery.

This Saturday is Canadian Independent Bookstore Day!

So, I'm sharing one of my favourite independent bookstores in Ontario 📚

Fanfare Books in Stratford Ontario, is a must stop for any book lover! It's been a staple in town for over 50 years. Inside it has all the charm that you'd expect to find in Stratford, with exposed brick walls, an emerald green ceiling and chandeliers hanging.

The shelves are lined with an array of titles, from plays to mysteries. Plus, they always have a great window display for the different seasons.

Many independent bookstores will be hosting events, fun activities, deals, and more. It's the perfect excuse to shop local!

The Burning Library by Gilly Macmillan Book Review

If you loved the Da Vinci Code you'll love The Burning Library.

The story centers around a young woman with a brilliant mind for decoding ancient texts. After she lands an intriguing job in St. Andrews, she realizes all is not what it seems.

Two groups are at odds, her mother's at risk, and people are dying all around her. She sets off on a quest, from Scotland to Italy in search of a mysterious book. But can she decode the clues in time and find the book before they find her?

I loved the plot and main character. While I struggled with the pace at first, by halfway I was having a hard time putting it down.

The Midnight Hour by Elly Griffiths

This is the latest in Elly's The Brighton Mysteries. The series takes place in Brighton, England during the post war era, this one's during the 1960's.

The cast of characters range from a woman cop, a duo of women detectives as well as some interesting film and entertainment folk.

I loved the female empowerment focus, especially for the times the book takes place in. As for the mystery, it will keep you guessing until the end as to who the murderer is.

Have you read any of the series?
