@museumofsex is pushing boundaries in Miami with an exhibition that reframes erotic art as cultural history, social commentary, and lived experience.

“Hard Art: Unruly Selections from the Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection” brings together works spanning from the 1930s to today, tracing how artists have used erotic imagery to confront power, identity, activism, and taboo.

“This exhibition embodies the Museum of Sex’s mission in Miami,” says Daniel Gluck, Executive Director. “It elevates conversations around sexuality as an essential part of cultural expression and human experience.” Featuring sculpture, photography, film, and painting, the show presents what Gluck calls “a historical arc of desire as a means of expression, resistance, identity, and freedom,” resonating deeply in a city defined by intensity, beauty, and spectacle.

Presented with context and intention, “Hard Art” reflects the museum’s broader vision of blending art, nightlife, and community into a single cultural dialogue. “In Miami we live loud and vivid, and this exhibition dialogues with that energy,” Gluck explains, noting that visitors are invited to see erotic art as “expressive, humorous, playful, and deeply human.”

Shaped by a transformative partnership with the Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection, the exhibition underscores the museum’s commitment to risk, visibility, and artistic integrity. As Gluck puts it, “I hope visitors leave feeling seen, engaged, and awakened to the many layered ways sex has shaped artistic expression and cultural dialogue.”
