Forgot to post about the latest addition to my library! Super cool book by @jimmyshy & @yuchang106 (published by @hardymarkspublications). So much HK traditional tattoo history in here!

Very inspired by this, really hope I can eventually put out something similar someday! 🇭🇰

Met the very cool Randy today here in Toronto, he complimented my half-sleeve which got us talking. Told me he did all of these tattoos himself stick-n-poke style. Said the latest was done in 2009.⚡️

Little bit of filigree and Thai script spotted on the very friendly Tony while taking the train trip from Southport to Liverpool. He overheard my friend Jonathan and I talking about growing up in HK and complimented my tattoos. Told us he got these on a drunk night out in Koh Samui (Thailand) 35 years ago.

Saw these amazing sleeves + back piece (and “the oldest stone masons”) on Mike today in Southport. Love the new-school purple clouds and blue waves!

Mike told me he got the sleeves 5 years ago and used to work as a laser removal tech at the local shop. Apparently there used to be a tattoo museum in Southport which closed down 😭

This has been my first time visiting the UK and I’ve seen so many sick aged tattoos and everyone I’ve met has been very friendly!

Met the very sweet Albert today who tattooed both of these pieces on himself by hand at 15 years old back in the 1940s, living in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada.

I’m always a bit nervous about approaching older people and asking to take photos but every single time, across multiple continents, people are quite excited to talk about their tattoos.

Real appreciation for true art connects us all as humans and goes deeper than race or nationality, I think the world could use a little more of that these days!❤️

58 years in the skin.

Met a 71 year old gentleman at the gym today and noticed this tattoo on his forearm, he told me got it in the Czech Republic when he was 13, his older brother hand-poked it with 3 needles bound together by some string. This was the 3rd attempt (you can see the single dot and the beginnings of a heart on his other arm). Apparently he cried during the first 2 false-starts 🥲. The design was also supposed to have an anchor below the heart but they never finished it.

He’d gone to the hospital to get it removed at some point several years later but they wanted him to sign a waiver and showed him pictures of some terrible keloid scars, at the time there was no laser removal tech so it would have been ground away with some sort of abrasion method (I’m glad he ended up keeping it).

Spotted this beauty in Toronto today. The gentleman told me he got it back in 2006 (love how it’s aged) and it was done by his brother-in-law (didn’t catch his name unfortunately, I know he wasn’t based in Toronto). One of the bonuses of the sunny weather: a lot more visible tattoos to photograph!

✝️🌞🙏

Super excited to receive these prints from @drjamiejelinski 🙏

Original sheets were by a tattooer named ‘John Sullivan’ who worked out of Saint John, New Brunswick (Canada). As he was still active in the 1940s it’s possible these sheets are from post-WW1 or WW2.

Really interesting designs on here. My favorites are the swallow carrying a letter and the British lion (also check out the little fist with energy emanating from it, looks way ahead of its time to me)!

Spotted this beauty in Toronto today, the very kind Colombian gentleman told me he got it back in 1974 in London, England and paid £6.00 for it, said back in those days people used to think you were a criminal if you had tattoos.
