I hate the idea of an “after” photo.

My camera roll is full of updated pictures of me, but I’m not sure any of them will ever feel like an after. Like I’ve arrived at some final, finished, polished version of myself.

Because I haven’t.

There are still goals I’m working toward. Things I’m learning. Parts of myself I’m still rebuilding, strengthening, and becoming.

But somewhere along the way, I promised myself that when I lost 100 pounds, I would stop for a minute and acknowledge it.

So this is me keeping that promise.

Not picking apart how far I still have to go.
Not minimizing how far I’ve already come.
Just standing here, in the middle of it all, and letting myself be proud.

100 pounds.

I’m grateful for the version of me who decided she was worth taking care of before she had any proof that she could do this. For every small choice she made when nobody was watching. For every time she started again instead of deciding she had failed.

And maybe that’s why I don’t really want an “after.”

I think, especially as women and moms, we spend so much of our lives becoming. Our bodies carry us through babies, stress, celebrations, heartbreak, exhaustion, healing, aging, and a hundred different seasons. There may never be a perfectly finished version waiting for us at the end.

Maybe the goal isn’t to finally arrive.

Maybe it’s to learn to look around every once in a while during the climb and realize just how much ground we’ve already covered.

Today, I’m doing that.
