Lessons from Forest Fires - Eucalyptus: Beneath the stringy bark of many eucalyptus trees there are a plethora of epicormic buds. Epicormic buds can be dormant for years but are ready to grow as soon as they're given the signal; usually triggered by hormones or light cues. When the layer of eucalyptus bark covering these epicormic buds is burned away they produce a lush rush of vegetation. This ability makes eucalyptus trees one of the quickest to bounce back and thrive after a fire. As old "bark" burns in our lives or communities it uncovers the potential for previously dormant entities to erupt. #plantwisdom #flora #blacklivesmatter #eucalyptus #plantlessons #natureknowsbest #truth #plantphilosophy #change #newgrowth #plantfreak by @flora.plantrants

Lessons from Forest Fires: Lately it has felt like the world is burning! Unexpected and catestrophic things keep happening and we are surrounded by a climate of fear. This made me think of how fires ravage our forests and wildlands every so often. We only see burning and devastation, but with ancient wisdom nature knows how to survive and rebuild these fires. Sometimes it is even necessary that the old be destroyed to make way for the new. The next few posts will focus on specific plants that not only know how to survive fires but several that need them. My hope is that through these plants we can learn how to let go of what is not serving us individually and as a community and begin to find new growth. #blacklivesmatter #change #plantwidsom #treesknow #forestfire #flora #resilience #fireproof #unstoppable #natureknowsbest #nature #plants #truth #wisdom #rebuild by @flora.plantrants

Lesson from trees inside Biosphere 2: There was an artificial environment built in Arizona to see if we could build enclosures to grow plants on Mars. The trees grew quickly and all seemed to be going well until the trees suddenly just toppled over. The scientists found that without any wind in the enclosure the trees hadn't been given any resistance. Resistance is what makes trees develop strong root systems and bodies so the trees can reach their full growth potential, without resistance they are stunted and aren't strong enough to reach their potential, to be what they are meant to be. This is similar to our lives! We often feel like we are being thrown around by the winds of struggle. But without those winds we would never become strong enough to reach our full potential. With a totally calm, easy existence we would be stunted. We are meant to be fully mature trees, tall and strong and resilient, but without the winds we'll never get there. #lifelessons #plantwisdom #wind #trees #strength #resilience #flora #truth by @flora.plantrants

Lesson from Silene stenophylla: In 2007 seeds were discovered in Siberia that had been buried in the frozen tundra for about 32,000 years. In 2012 scientists were able to get these seeds to grow, officially claiming the record for oldest plant material brought back to life! Sometimes in our lives we feel stuck, frozen, buried for a long time, wondering if we will ever thrive again. If there is one thing we can learn from the Silene stenophylla it is that it is never too late, no matter how long it has been since we felt alive, given the right situation we can blossom again. by @flora.plantrants

Lesson from a Sunflower: We need to accept where we are, dig our roots into the soil of reality, but that doesn't mean we stop following the light, constantly looking towards the brightest thing we can imagine, gaining strength from that vision and hope. #plantwisdom #sunflower #followthelight by @flora.plantrants
