a soft landing — feeling more and more at home at our new place in the countryside. I feel so lucky getting to wake up and spend most mornings like this. we slept in today and after the rain yesterday, we finally got a bit of sun. it’s rainy season here in Japan and most places are super hot now. Luckily in Shizuoka, the weather is easing us into summer so we have more time to yap under the sun with our hot tea before it grills us. 🐣🙇‍♀️ by @florademanila

A perfect circle my last weekend in LA: sat around under a tree with friends, @ourboy.La made me a huge vegan passionfruit carrot cake, and had a letter writing station by my sweets @itsatrinketparty. I couldn’t have asked for a better despedida. 🧸A week before, I had printed shirts and totes with a flier I designed for this and so happy with how they turned out :,)before getting kicked out by the park rangers, we had a perfect circle drawing contest and gave away the printed totes & tees. as I was writing in my journal, I realized that these reminded me of Enso, the zen circle: The Zen circle of enlightenment reflects that transforming experience - perfectly empty yet completely full, infinite, shining brightly like the moon-mind of enlightenment. 🩷 Thank you @zen.ai.do for these photos. love them so much. by @florademanila

Summer camp came early 🩷 savoring every bit of this place. drank wine at Annapolis, ate 5 lbs of mussels we collected by the water, karaoke’d night n day, hiked in the forest to find rhododendrons (we found one), not a single hungry moment was had lol by @florademanila

update: our event is completely full. thank you all for your interest. hopefully we can all sit in the future at our temple. hosting our first Tea & Meditation at our home here in LA.beginners are encouraged to join. this might also be the last in a while as we begin to transition out of the US. our goal is to create a space for people interested in starting their practice of zazen and for those who are looking to deepen their practice. let’s welcome the year of the horse together and meditate on our intentions for the year ♡@ggyama7 will be guiding the meditation to be followed by tea served by @florademanila join us on 2.18 at 7pm sharp. spots are very limited. message us both directly to rsvp. see you soon 📿 by @florademanila

The Yamamoto’s —I met @ggyama7’s family for the first time last November. I was excited and nervous because I didn’t know much Japanese to speak with them. I worried about not being able to connect and fully express myself. But once we got back to his family’s house in the countryside, I was greeted with the warmest smiles from his mom & dad. They were making cocktails and I asked for tea haha. It didn’t take us long to warm up to each other. I was so relieved going to bed that night after a long flight and after being away from Sogen & feeling like I was home being around his family. I cried smiling to bed. I miss my in-laws so much & I really can’t wait to spend more time with my new family <333 1. Sogen lookin too dapper at a laundromat 2. Obaachan at @ggyama7’s brothers wedding 3.
