Lolo’s Light - Book Review 🐣

⚠️ This book has: SIDS, divorced parents, grief, guilt

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Genre: middle grade, grief, mental health, family fiction

This book is filled with incredibly heavy topics that are handled with care, gentleness, and clear communication.

We are reading about Millie and the Acosta family going through a life-changing experience. Something I really appreciated were the adults giving Millie clear explanations about SIDS, life and death, and how things are out of our control. Personally, I think it is better to be direct with children and to explain things in a way that they can understand. It was understandable that she had a hard time accepting the reality of these conversations. In the end, they are beneficial to hear in order to find that peace so you can move forward in life.

It felt so heartbreaking watching Millie have a hard time talking to her friends and family – in general, watching her pull away from things that made her happy was really sad to me. Reaching out to others can be difficult when you aren’t sure how to explain the feelings going on in your brain and head. On the upside, I thought it was incredibly sweet that Millie had a self-soothing phrase that went “warmth and light.” I don’t want to spoil this, but the title ended up being something incredibly meaningful within this book. It is important to try to find the light in things, which comes in different ways and from different people. In times of darkness and confusion, it is important to hang on to things that bring us light.

❓What brings you light?

I finally organized my favorites shelves! Also, I’m sure it doesn’t come off this way, but if a book got moved to the second shelf it doesn’t mean I don’t love it as much anymore. It is just a space thing lol both shelves are my faves

I also came up with another way to shift some other shelves around for a better look and to better utilize my shelves. I don’t want to stack books on top of each other anymore so I have to make this shift very soon lol linktowatchinbiothx

Read Latine authors and books all year round 🙌🏽

❓How do you like to organize your favorite books?

I really loved this asmr lol by @floralchapters

Guatemalan Rhapsody - My Takeaways 🇬🇹

* Ofrenda - asking for forgiveness, giving forgiveness
* Whistle While You Work - loyalty
* Saint Dismas - desperate times, desperate measures
* Dark Road With Diesel Stains - every child deserves a parent, not every parent deserves a child

I really enjoyed the stories in this anthology! Some honorable mentions are Heart Sleeves, Scrimmages, and Fight Sounds. I looked up some of the places mentioned in Guatemala (El Estor, Quetzaltenango) and they look very beautiful! Also, I had no idea Pollo Campero is Guatemalan lol

I haven’t noticed up until recently just how many anthologies I have lol so I’m glad I was able to read another one

I read If We Survive This and really enjoyed it! This take on zombies is really cool and I related to Flora. Enjoy my rambling review from the linkinmybio:)

Still want to let you know to read Latine authors and books all year round 🙌🏽

❓What’s your fave zombie book?
————————————————————————————
#bookreview #booktubereview #booktubevideo #booktuber by @floralchapters

Here are some zombie books, movies, and TV shows I love! The movie and TV list is longer but I cannot put them all lol 🧟‍♀️

I love the different takes on zombies. The anxiety and adrenaline is super fun for me, I also love the chaos at the start of the outbreak. Seeing people needing to use their wits to escape and figuring out the mechanics of the reanimated is so captivating. Other than the dead, there are layers to these stories. Whether in fighting against a tyrannical government or coming to terms with strained familial relationships, zombie movies touch on different socioeconomic factors and physical, emotional, and mental pain.

Also, how cool is this book cover for The Contained by @amilea.writes !! So grateful to be part of the amazing street team 🥰

❓What is your role in the zombie apocalypse?

Please Don’t Go - semi-review/brain dump

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (10 million out of 5 stars tbh)
Genre: contemporary, romance, sports romance, mental health

Y’all, I can’t even begin to describe how emotionally invested I was into this book. It took me almost 2 weeks to read it. I did get quite busy irl but I think it was also just a heavy read at times that I think I needed time to digest and reflect.

I am not sure how to eloquently write a review. The last slides have spoilers, it’s some of the pages in my reading journal. It touched a lot on mental health topics such as the passing of a parent and sibling, anxiety, depression, PTSD, amongst others. It also touches on the different sides of grief and how it presents itself in people. Josie and Danny’s inner turmoil were explored beautifully and I feel like their characters grew a lot throughout this book. Their love story had me a chokehold. I rooted for them the whole way. Daniel is such a romantic and Josie is there for Daniel in a way that no one thought was possible.

I finished like 6 tabs while reading this book (the evolution is so satisfying to look at lol). I also ran out of I think 3-4 glitter pens. It is IMMEDIATELY going on my favorites shelf.

❓What was the last book that left you speechless.
My last one was Pachinko by Min Jin Lee. Now, it is Please Don’t Go by E. Salvador

Strange Lights - Book Review 🛸

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Genre: Fantasy, science fiction, paranormal, mystery, LGBTQIA+
Happy pub day!!!

I saw this book on NetGalley and knew it was right up my alley!
👽
Parenting is never easy, but it’s a hell of a lot harder when your toddler is a chupacabra.

Paranormal investigator and cryptozoologist Reggie has embraced her fate as parent to an adopted toddler, Eldi—a bloodsucking chupacabra with a fondness for goats. Reggie wants nothing more than to put her complicated past in the rearview mirror and fade into as much obscurity as her toddler will allow. But a rash of UFOs in the night sky and a couple of crop-circle-carving Roombas force Reggie into an investigation that attracts the attention of an old enemy, an anti-supernatural agency hunting for creatures like Eldi. To outwit them, Reggie must team up with Calvin, a podcaster-turned-werewolf whose charm is a real threat to Reggie’s rule against romantic attachments.

With Reggie’s history quickly catching up to her and Eldi in the agency’s crosshairs, any shred of normalcy evaporates. Reggie must decide: Can she confront her dark past to save Eldi—and an entire alien species—from getting wiped out of the universe?

❓Which cryptic do you so desperately want to be real? My answer: Loch Ness Monster
❓Could you live in a van? 🚐

I have SO many authors to read. There are some authors where I have only read one book of theirs and there are others who I haven’t read in a while. Time to change that with this list! linkinbio

I won’t lie, I think I am burning out. My irl stuff keeps beating me to the ground and finding the time to relax has been a tad harder. Who do I think I am with making my initial 8-book tbr list lol

Still want to let you know to read Latine authors and books all year round 🙌🏽
