POSTS STORIES REELS

I’m in my next phase for OTB! I’ll be working on alpha reader edits for now. I see where my writing can definitely improve. I’ll need to learn how to let go of long sentences and comma splices lol. I’m glad to see readers enjoy certain aspects of my story too!

I do plan on hiring a developmental editor, I’ve been trying to save the funds for that. I’m still learning the “right” path for my self-publishing journey, it’s all just so new to me. But so far, it’s been fun!

Also, I made a new lil picture inspo board using Unsplash!

Hello! My name is Pilar (pronunciation is in Spanish. ‘Peel-ar’) and here’s my new writing account. I really just want to talk about the stories that I am working on, improving my writing, attending workshops, (maybe) publishing my work, and more.

I have 1 story, Our Threshold of being, that I am almost done with in terms of revising and editing. I have another WIP but I’m unsure of any plans for it once I’m done. So far, I’m just enjoying writing it!

I have written other stories but those are on pause for me to figure out what to do with them. They also just might sit there as ones I wrote for fun.

My booksta was feeling a bit stretched thin and clogged with me talking about books AND my writing. I’m excited for this dedicated writing account!

Part 1: Getting Started, Chapter 2: Character Concepting

“And the decisions the character makes insect moments not only reveal his full humanity and complexity, but begin to suggest, and to steer, the course of your novel.”

This just continues to solidify that I need to work on the motivation and background for one of my characters. I do need to take into account how this change will mix into their interactions with other characters, though. So, it will be fun when I get to that point

OMG I finished alpha edits for chapter 5! 🥹 I worked on half of the first page all the way to the end just last night. Today, I read through it one more time and now I’m done!

I made my new deadline for chapters 6-10. If I start chapter 6 this week, I think I can definitely achieve this next goal or even finish a little early too so we will see .

💭 How are your writing projects going?

I finished revising alpha edits for chapter 4! I did the first page while in class 💀 but then had time on the weekend to work on it. I really think if I motivate myself, I can finish working on chapter 5 by Halloween.

Here’s a quote from Chapter 3! One of my alpha’s loved this line, which makes me really happy. A weird thing I worry about with my writing is that I don’t know how to write anything… deep or profound or something that sticks with people. So I am very touched that this line was liked!

Finished going through alpha edits for chapter 3! Chapter 4 might take me a bit longer as it’s more pages than Chapter 3. I plan on working on it little by little each day.

💭 How do you like to tackle your edits?

I read Part 1: Getting Started, Chapter 1: 25 Things You Should Know About Character by Chuck Wendig!

There are 25 things total and three of them really stood out to me when it comes to OTB:
1. The Character as Fulcrum: All Things Rest Upon Him
5. Tell Us What She Wants
20. Screwed Up

Number 5 helped me with an idea for one of my characters. I got more or less the same comments about them, which led me to wondering on how to improve their background and story. I am hoping this addition will add a little bit more to them and their interactions with others!

💭 What resources do you utilize for your writing?

I finished looking at some edits for chapter 2 in OTB! Y’all, I seriously love long freaking sentences 😭 writing shorter, punchier lines has definitely been a challenge but I think I am definitely overthinking it at times. Onto chapter 3!

❓What is a writing tip that has stuck with you?

I love finding real life settings that feel like OTB! There’s no bathroom in OTB but the vibes of this place definitely felt like what I am reaching for lol

💭How do you find inspo (artwork, real settings, etc.) for your writing?

The alpha reader edits are in! Truthfully… I have been putting off alpha edits for a hot second. I needed to find my footing with my irl stuff but now I am trying to force myself to take baby steps. I am going to make a ~soft~ deadline for myself to go through edits for the first 5 chapters before Halloween. Let’s see how I do!

💭How do you organize the next steps for your revisions and edits?

I got this book about writing! @boundless_phoenix kindly shared her recs and this one stuck out to me. I’ve been wanting to learn more about the craft in general so I thought books would be a great way to do that.

I’m not super familiar with books about writing. I wasn’t sure how to pinpoint what I was specifically looking for. I’m sure once I get reading I will find a lot of helpful insight and also maybe the topic I want to hone in on.
