Charlie West signed up for Tread in July of 2025 with one goal: safely gain 2 to 3 mph.⁠
⁠
He was coming off his sophomore year at UConn, sitting 87 and touching 90, heading into a make-or-break junior season, and competing for the Friday night job.⁠
⁠
He won that job, then blew right past the original goal, averaging 90.7 mph and topping 94 mph a year later and getting drafted in the 7th round by the Dodgers. 🚀⁠

Working through his early video, the arm action stood out first. He was uphill at foot strike and had to rip open just to get back on plane.⁠
⁠
The arm was late out of the glove, and the uphill shoulders caused a low elbow and an elbow flexion-driven move.⁠
⁠
The emphasis early was cleaning up that sequence and getting the arm on time and in plane.⁠
⁠
The drills:⁠
✅ Kneeling lasso: isolating 90° elbow flexion in line with the shoulders⁠
✅ Lateral step ten toes: keeping the lower half open while finding separation with the upper half⁠
✅ Pivot pick abbreviated arm action: staggering the lower half while holding that same arm position, helping him feel counter rotation with a level torso⁠
✅ Rock back Janitor: feeling whole foot connection and establishing a posterior weight shift of the pelvis during the drive⁠

By September he had already made huge strides, and the delivery kept building into a full arm action with rhythm out of the glove.⁠
⁠
His outlier fastball shape remained through the mechanical overhaul:⁠
87.0 mph avg in 2025 to 90.7 mph avg in 2026, topping out at 94.1⁠
Carry jumped from 22.6" to 23.1" of IVB⁠
Whiff rate climbed from 23.8% to 27.3%⁠
Chase rate nearly doubled, from 9.8% to 17.9%⁠
Extension tightened up, 6.2 ft down to 6.0 ft, as the back leg rotation cleaned up⁠

Walk rate dropped from 5.8 BB/9 in 2025 to 3.8 BB/9 in 2026.⁠

If you’re a catcher moving to the mound, the arm usually isn’t the problem; the lower half is.🦵⁠

Congrats to Lawson McLeod on committing to Georgia Southern! 🦅⁠
⁠
McLeod recently decommitted from LSU and reopened his recruitment. In the meantime, he's been cleaning up his drift, resisting early spine extension, and building a more efficient lead leg block.⁠
⁠
Already a high-level mover who's been mid-90s, he's got plenty more in the tank as he continues to add strength. 💪⁠

Congrats to James Hare on committing to Fairleigh Dickinson University out of the Transfer Portal Showcase! 📈⁠

Hare saw limited opportunities out of the bullpen for La Salle in the A10 this spring. He made the most of his opportunity at the TPS, sitting 90.7 mph (T91.7) with 17.5" of IVB on his fastball, already averaging harder than his previous career peak. ⁠

He's been trending, recently touching 94 in a bullpen at Tread HQ.⁠

Charlie West is heading to the Dodgers after being selected in the 7th round of the 2026 MLB Draft! ✍️⁠

West led the Big East in strikeouts this year, punching out 111 batters in 87.1 innings for UConn, a huge jump from 59 K in 52.1 IP last season as he stepped into a full-time rotation role. 📈⁠

Congrats to Marley Bernal on committing to The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (DI)!⁠
⁠
Marley posted a 2.08 ERA across 17.1 innings at St. Edwards University (DII) in 2025 and came to Tread this spring to complete his Tommy John rehab. 💪⁠

He impressed during a rehab bullpen at the event and earned himself a Division I opportunity. 🎉⁠

6'6" Uncommitted High Schooler's 94 MPH Mechanics⁠

Lawson McLeod is a recent high school graduate from Virginia. An elite level prospect who just recently decommitted from LSU and reopened his recruitment process. As a 17-year-old throwing peak fastball velocities in the upper 90s, we know he is a high-level mover. ⁠
⁠
Upon the initial assessment, we found 3 areas to focus on:⁠
⁠
1️⃣ Staying tall during the drift, not crunching into leg lift⁠
2️⃣ Resisting early extension of the spine, keeping ribs tucked⁠
3️⃣ More efficient lead leg block⁠
⁠
Since completing a velo-based on-ramp, Lawson is sitting 93, topping 95, and ready to find his new home for the fall! ⁠
⁠
There is still a ton left in the tank for him, and as he continues to get stronger and improve on his already elite throw, we could see him sit mid-90s, touching upper 90s very soon. by @florenceperformance
