POSTS STORIES REELS

An about me post! I’m just an art teacher and artist and Mom trying to take up some space too. I’m a small account and community is my jam! I’d like to grow my art network, in a meaningful way, so leave a comment and I’ll leave some creative feedback on one (or more) of your posts!!!! We’ll see how this goes?! Instagram feels like a giant social experiment moving target 🤣🎉💓 by @flow_state_collage

When in doubt do as Peter Reynolds does 🔴

I teach six elementary art classes a day. The decision fatigue is very real. I know many of us have consuming day jobs. I want to make my own work but struggle with figuring out what to make. This past week I sat down at the end of the day, just for a few minutes, and told myself to just make marks without much thought. I ended up with three painted or abstract papers! I may use these as material for a future collage. TBD! by @flow_state_collage

More playful moments in my art journal! This mixed media page includes painted papers from my classroom, my son’s cursive worksheet, practice piano music, and the “love” page of a Webster dictionary. I was lazy and used a paint marker for the negative, and I’m not hating that scratchy look! by @flow_state_collage

Artist Trading Cards! These are ones I’ve received recently from the swap organized by @mini.collage.collective !! I’m so happy! The cards are so unique and layered with meaning. People were so kind to include thoughtful notes, handmade envelopes, and extra materials for collaging!! Wow! The ATC community is where it’s at!

Ok my process reel doesn’t show much ha. Except maybe how satisfying it is to tear and glue a bunch of fun papers onto one collaged canvas, and then cut that up again! by @flow_state_collage

More Artist trading cards! I’m addicted! These are inspired by all the zinnia flowers popping up in my yard, community, and shared garden plot. Hopefully I can post a process reel or carousel soon. But you can play “I spy” in the meantime - all sorts of goodies in this collage. Also yellow and pink may just be my color palette of choice at the moment. Believe it or not I used restraint while making this. by @flow_state_collage

A few more artist trading cards! My energy for personal artmaking has taken a hit because teacher Mom August life, but it feels good to at least push a few shapes, lines, and colors around on these small works!

Next batch of Artist trading cards!! I made a very patchy pink collage, cut it up into the 2.5” x 3.5” size, and then played with some negative shapes, especially flowers. I’m not a huge fan of how the black acrylic lays glossy on top, but I think I’ll keep exploring this idea. Woo! @mini.collage.collective

Also, The Meters are great! 🎶 by @flow_state_collage

8 artist trading cards for 8 days of August! These have been so fun to make! They are for @mini.collage.collective ATC challenge! Thank you so much for the push. Working extra small right now, in buys back to school times, has been awesome and digestible. Everyone should do this!!

A little free jazz, a little suminagashi ink, some practice piano sheet music, and a whole lot of abstract art fun! by @flow_state_collage

A warm colored art journal challenge for anyone who needs it! Here are the steps and supplies!

1. Make painted papers in a specific color scheme (limit your palette, pick warm/cool/neutral). I made my papers using suminagashi or a water marbling ink kit from Amazon but you can make painted papers so many ways. @collageclubldn has some great painted papers inspo! I organize my collage papers by color in a plastic drawer thingy.

2. Pick out about 6 or 7 (ha) coloring utensils. Can be prismacolor colored pencils like mine (Blicks studio pencils are similar quality), or it can be crayons, markers, etc.! Use what you got! Color a simple geometric background. You don’t want it to over complicate your composition.

3. Cut out 6-ish organic shapes from the painted papers. Play a bit with how you want it arranged! For a more advanced option, have these ready beforehand and temporarily place them as you color the background, periodically checking to see how the two layers are working together. Glue the cut out shapes down when you are ready!

4. Embellish your design with anything you think it needs! I added ovals in the middle of the flowers with Sharpie and Ohuhu (on Amazon) paint markers. by @flow_state_collage
