Wait I didn’t even tell you guys about that time we went to Fayetteville, Arkansas for a @gar_hole_records winter showcase (Gar Holeidays) last year. Stayed at a bed & breakfast for antique lovers, explored the local parks, thrifted/estate-saled, hit some dive bars (smoking inside allowed), and saw some of our favorite musicians (@roseofappalachia @neckshoulders @sabine.annamaryse @ramsey.thornton @kenpomeroymusic @dadcountry) taken in Fayetteville, Arkansas by @flowerchild_celesteb

Had a lovely time playing tunes last night at @restorationorchards for their Buck Moon popup 🦌🌝🦋 I will be back for more on August 12!

Driving home along familiar, winding country roads (County Road O if you’re a real one) during the sunset, I was reminded of just how dang beautiful some good old Wisconsin farmland can be. Digital marketer, musician and journalist Celeste Benzschawel visited Rock Island for the first time to celebrate a friends’ engagement. We pitched a few questions to find out what she thought of her experience! Read on to see what her short - but sweet - trip included:

⛵️ What drew you to make a trip to Rock Island?
I’d always wanted to go when I lived in Door County, but I finally made it years later to celebrate a friends’ engagement! They’re a local couple, and they hosted a two-night camping trip. Some folks took the Karfi over, some canoed, and some brought their boats over! I personally took the Karfi. The camp hosts that greeted our group were super cute and friendly. They helped carry my cooler a little ways to the campsites!

🌅 How many days /nights were you there? I was personally on Rock Island for 24ish hours. If I had it my way, I’d have stayed longer! Since we were there to celebrate, we mostly enjoyed the beaches and our campsite. The day I was there, we played Kubb in the big field. I didn’t have enough time to get in the loop hike or make it all the way to the lighthouse. I’ll definitely be doing so on my next visit.

🍳 What was your favorite part of the trip?
It’s hard to say because I thoroughly enjoyed every moment, but I think catching the sunset by the boathouse was probably the best. Our group also included a few chefs and service industry folks, so they were generous to share some really amazing food.

⛺️ Was there anything that surprised you?
I didn’t know what to expect for the campsites, but they were awesome! I loved how rustic and removed they felt, and how close our site was to the shoreline. I’m super happy they didn’t really have that “campsite” feel and instead felt more like dispersed camping.

🧐 Is there anything you would have changed / done differently?
I would say just spend more time there overall! taken in Door County by @flowerchild_celesteb

Extremely emo this week after the best birthday yet 🖤🕯️☠️⚰️🎂🕸️🥀 Complete with suprise guests, arm wrestling, bones, the grim reaper, a coffin, and lots and lots of Hamm’s. All followed by a Saturday MKE dive bar crawl and Sunday cheese curd crawl in Madison.

To everyone who came to help me celebrate the death of my 20s…IM FEELING SO LOVED!!

Special thanks to @jordanaltekruse for buying a coffin and fixing it up secretly in the basement, and to @pbenz13 for helping with the suprise theme, decor, and homemade cake.

A couple months ago, nearly five years TO THE DAY we moved there, we left Colorado. I knew that I would fall deeply in love with the mountains and the desert, and boy did I, but I didn’t know how much I’d come to love an entirely new group of friends even more.

I know that friendships change, but I sure as hell am not letting any of you go 💘
