how I wash our woolens/silks…in the desert!
if we had fresh snowfall that’s where our things would be going!
I love hand washing things, mending things, stain removing. it makes me slow down. a physical demonstration of gratitude for things by making time and forcing yourself to be intentional. the kids love to help too. wool is naturally self-cleaning so you really don’t need to wash it often. I’ll use the water for the plants after i’m finished.

1. I’m using three gallons of tepid water here. I would’ve used more if I had washed all of our things. I use @eucalan unscented which calls for 1tsp per 1gal of water.

2. I gently massage everything to make sure it’s saturated. The surface of wool is naturally hydrophobic so it takes a little love to get it fully wet.

3. I had some silks to wash today but have learned my lesson about mixing the darker colors with my lighter silks while washing so I’ll do that separately. especially the greens and blues they will bleed. 🙂

4. I will let them sit for around 20 ish minutes after they’re saturated. sometimes I forget and they’re there a little longer but it was 110 this day so I didn’t want the water to get too hot.

5. I then gently squeeze the wool to get as much water as I can out and the silks I will squeeze and then those just go straight to a drying rack!

6. I will then take the wool inside roll it in a towel and step on it to get any more water out and sometimes manipulate the sleeves or anywhere I want it to dry a little differently and always lay wool flat to dry!
