Suvilahti DIY 4ever 🛹✨

This year's art program includes an homage to Suvilahti's beloved skatepark, set to be demolished this autumn. Led by Flow’s long-time visual designer @lauratimantti, a group of artists will create a tribute mural together to honor the cherished landmark.

The artwork marks a full-circle moment for Laura herself: she created her first major painting at the Flow skatepark in 2015. "I've spent an absurd amount of my life at this place. I've made friends there from Finland and around the world. I've painted it's walls, designed festival spaces in and around it, helped organize skate demos, and even skated there myself – although not very well."

Art and Fashion enchant at Flow! This year, Flow’s art program expands into the world of fashion, while the festival grounds come alive with a diverse selection of light, street, and video art.

On Friday 14.8. at 20:15 at Front Yard, a multisensory fashion performance by MASTERMINTTU, combines designs by emerging talent kboy, a live soundscape by Apeak, and immersive light design by AUSGANG studio. The German art studio AUSGANG integrates into Front Yard and can be experienced throughout the festival.

In addition, the program features an exhibition by Berlin-based Kadir “Amigo” Memiş, video sculpture Fluvial Time by Merle Karp, and impressive lighting concept by Flow’s long-time lighting partner Sun Effects.

Flow’s visual designer Lauratimantti, aka Laura Lehtinen, will create a tribute mural to Suvilahti DIY, and several exciting installations. In addition, the Urban Art program will spread across the festival site, with works by 19 artists appearing throughout Suvilahti.

AUSGANG will build their living installation at Flow Festival’s Front Yard!

AUSGANG studio is an art studio where technology decays, nature fights back, and the future is already here. Installations built from the wreckage of progress — sound, light, signal, and rot.

The studio operates across permanent gallery commissions, site-specific exhibitions, festival production, and new media installations, with media spanning kinetic objects, addressable LED, ultra-low-frequency sound, laser arrays, upcycled material, and biodesign.

The Make Your Mark gallery, located within the festival area, will present an exhibition by Berlin-based Kadir “Amigo” Memiş.

Memiş began his artistic journey in the vibrant hip-hop and breakdance culture of the late 1980s. Over the course of more than three decades, his work as a choreographer has combined urban movement culture with traditional forms, establishing his position as a pioneer of the German hip-hop scene. Alongside his dance career, Memiş has developed an independent drawing practice and created calligraphic works on paper for more than 30 years. The exhibition features the artist’s original works and screen prints.

On view at The Other Sound venue, Merle Karp’s Fluvial Time is a video sculpture of a weightless waterfall suspended in the air. It presents the majesty, danger, and force of motion of natural phenomena through a light material immateriality. The work explores themes of time and perception through slow motion — a “magnifying glass of time”. Amid the bustle of the festival, it creates a calm space to pause and reflect on shifts in perception.

Lauratimantti, aka Laura Lehtinen, is an illustrator and visual artist, as well as Flow’s long-time visual designer. In recent years, her main working environments have been public and semi-public spaces, where she has created both permanent and temporary works, including murals and installations in Finland and abroad.

This year, @lauratimantti will create three works for the festival area:

💎 Into the weekend: An installation made from recycled materials, located near the main entrance.

💎 Lauratimantti & Friends: Suvilahti DIY 4 Ever (sponsored by Suomen luonnonmaalit): A mural to be created on the wall of the Suvilahti DIY skatepark.
