My Caddy — the FULL solo. 🎹🔥 4 of 4. This is what happens when you're patient — you wait, you anticipate, and you get all four parts in ONE. The whole thing, start to finish: putting it all together, looking out at the guys on the bandstand from the stage, locking in and letting it ride. Live at the Bethesda Theater with the Urban Jam Band on the Yamaha concert grand. "My Caddy" is off my album Phoenix — a tribute to my father and his love for Cadillacs. A shout out to Cadillac as a brand, and to the man who loved them. 🚗 🔔 Want more like this — and to catch it live? My Caddy — Part 3 of 4. 🎹 This one's off my album Phoenix, and the song is a tribute to my father — my super-mentor and the most brilliant person I've ever known. My sister teases that I stole his face; I like to think he just let me borrow it for a while, and I promised I'd pass it down. 😊 I miss that man. He was instrumental in everything I've ever done. A little piano truth: the piano is a percussive instrument as much as a melodic one. The chopping movement of these chords — perfect fourth to a tritone to a perfect fifth, up and down and up and down — puts real strain on the shoulders, forearms, wrists and fingers. (That's why P90X matters. 😄) Sometimes it's just fun to lean into that percussive nature… and I'll be honest, that Yamaha concert grand was whooping my behind! 🎹 Courtesy of Yamaha Entertainment Group & Jeff Wood — shout to the Motif, my Focusrite, my Mac, and the whole Urban Jam Band: Chris "Biscuit" Bynum, Eddie Montalvo, David Dyson, Marcus Moore (@nerdyandratchet 😄), Greg Boyer on trombone, Don Vonté McCoy, Patrick Cooper & Earl Carter. Fun times at the Bethesda Theater. 🔔 Subscribe and join the newsletter at marcusjohnson360.com. 🎧 Full version → marcusjohnson360.com/listen #FLO #ForTheLoveOf #MyCaddy #Phoenix #MarcusJohnson #SmoothJazz #JazzPiano #UrbanJamBand #LiveMusic #FLOFamily #YamahaArtist #PianoTok @nerdyandratchet @biscuitbynum @cadillac @apple @focusrite @yamahamusicusa @yamahaentertainmentgroup @yasinewyork @davidyurman @skbcases @howard1867 @blackvines_ @busboysandpoets @paulcullenrocks @jdwoods795 @raynierhodnett @srg_jazz @_mattie_b @bluenoterecords @alaskaair by @flowine360

My Caddy — Part 2 of 4. 🎹 This part is all about managing from the bandstand — listening to everything everybody's doing and finding exactly where to fit in. The piano is a percussive AND melodic instrument, so I'm using it to subdivide the beat and lock in. Biscuit is KILLING it, David Dyson on bass, Earl on guitar — a funky, rhythmic crew — and I get to slide right into that pocket. That's what I'm always chasing. Because sometimes it's not about the notes you play — it's HOW you play them. And it's definitely not about how many notes… though you'll catch me sneak a few in there too. 😄 🔔 Want more like this — and to catch it live? My Caddy. ⛳️🎹 Part 1 of the solo. I'm an avid golfer, and the skill it takes to get around the course is the same skill it takes to get around the piano — meticulous, geometrical, technical… until it stops being technical and becomes a feeling. That's the symbiotic relationship I always talk about: me and my instrument as one. If you catch me live, you'll notice my eyes close almost the second I touch the keys — because the job isn't just to perform, it's to FEEL it and share that with the bandstand and the audience. Another take, live and direct with the Urban Jam Band, off the second DVD. Now the other side of "Caddy" 🚗: my father was a Cadillac man. He came up out of East St. Louis, Illinois, and in the late '50s and early '60s in this country he went to college, earned his master's, earned his PhD, and became a professor. Let that sit. But his proudest possession when I was born might've been that gold Coupe DeVille (my big sister knows 😂) — all the way to the Seville with the slant back. He was a Caddy man before he became a Lexus and Mercedes man. These days, looking at the Cadillac SUVs they're building — sporty when they need to be, iconic American manufacturing, durable and functional enough to load up all the gear and still arrive in style (like we just did all across the Southeast) — it fits this music perfectly. Big shout out to Cadillac. 🙌 As always, you'll see my Yamaha gear, my Focusrite interface, my Apple computer, and my Yamaha concert grand. This is my groove. This is my FLO. 🎧 Hear the full version → marcusjohnson360.com/listen ⏭️ This is Part 1 — Part 2 of the solo drops tomorrow or the next day. Happy Monday, FLO Family — and I hope every dad out there had an incredible Father's Day. 🙏 Your Monday motivation 👇 The Rush — Part 2. 🎹🔥 This is what happens when you get the whole Urban Jam Band together. A couple days ago I showed you the solo, just me practicing in the basement. THIS is that same tune LIVE — full band, full funk, in front of 500 people at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Theater in Bethesda, MD. The DC Urban Jam, everybody in the room: Don Vonté McCoy, Marcus Moore on violin, Greg Boyer on trombone, Earl Carter on guitar, David Dyson on bass, Chris Bynum on drums, and Eddie Montalvo on percussion. Everybody sees the open mics and the jam sessions out there — this is OUR version of that. A fun fact most people will never know: I had a neck injury at the time and couldn't feel down the right side of my body — my main hand. I played this entire concert almost without feeling in that hand. I did the therapy and got it right, but you stick with the date. People talk about the glory of the music; very few ever see what it takes to get there. So whatever you're pushing through this week — show up anyway. That's the FLO. Yamaha concert grand, proud Yamaha artist. 🎹 🎧 Hear the full version → marcusjohnson360.com/listen Like & subscribe for more FLO. 👍 #MondayMotivation #FLO #ForTheLoveOf #TheRush #UrbanJamBand #MarcusJohnson #SmoothJazz #Funk #LiveMusic #JazzPiano #FLOFamily #YamahaArtist #Bethesda @yasinewyork @yamahamusicusa @yamahaentertainmentgroup @davidyurman @skbcases @howard1867 @citywinerynyc @citywineryatl @blackvines_ @busboysandpoets @paulcullenrocks @middlecjazz @jdwoods795 @raynierhodnett @srg_jazz @_mattie_b @biscuitbynum @bluenoterecords @jazz_lovers_corner @alaskaair by @flowine360

Happy Father's Day. 🤍 From the delivery room at Sibley Hospital to stages around the world — it has been the honor of my life to be Chase's dad. The highest honor I will ever have. We don't just have children. We step into new roles — and we birth them all the time. So today is for every father, every mother, and everyone brave enough to become something new. Welcome. I miss mine. But he's right here — in the mirror, every day. This is Chapter 14 of "For the Love Of…" — Of New Roles. Read it, or hear me narrate it on Audible. 📖🎧 🔗 buyflobook.com (link in bio) — also on Amazon & Audible. Happy Father's Day, FLO Family. Say Yes. 🎹 Happy Father's Day. I'm playing this one on the road back to DC from Richmond — heading home to spend the day with my daughter, Chase. Being her father is the greatest thing I'll ever do. This remix came from my production partner and little brother, Young Pulse — he's taken his talents to Paris, London and all over Europe… and he also happens to be Chase's godfather. So this is a full-circle moment: a song my daughter loves, remixed by the man who helps me raise her. It takes a village — and it takes a village to raise up our dads too. So to every father out there, this one's for you. Say yes to showing up. Say yes to your kids. And say yes to YOURSELF — because that's the original FLO. The Rush. 🎹 One of the most FUN tunes I've ever played. This one's off the Quarantine Sessions — originally cut live with the Urban Jam Band: Don Vonté McCoy, Greg Boyer, Marcus Moore, Biscuit and the whole crew at Bethesda Blues & Jazz (it made the DVD too). Here it's just me in the basement, Logic open, splitting the tracks from that live take so I can really get in the lab. The whole core progression is basically two chords in G minor — but I let it breathe with some minor pentatonic, blues scales and a few harmonics to take it somewhere new. That's the FLO: simple foundation, infinite room to play. 🎧 Hear the full version → marcusjohnson360.com/listen Catch me LIVE tonight at Cool BeanZ in Petersburg, VA — and next weekend at Busboys & Poets (Shirlington 6/26 + Columbia brunch 6/28). Happy Juneteenth. ✊🏾🎹 Today we celebrate freedom — the real, hard-won, soul-deep kind. We honor every ancestor who paved the way for us to love fully, live intentionally, and create our own FLO. Last night at Big Bethel AME in Atlanta was everything Juneteenth should feel like — joyful, soulful, and full of love. Thank you, Atlanta. Thank you, Big Bethel. You showed up and showed out. ❤️ Tonight I'm in Fayetteville at The Ambiance — come through if you're near. Tomorrow we close out the weekend at Cool BeanZ in Petersburg, VA. 🎶 Tickets at the link in bio. At the end of this weekend, I get to go home and hold my baby girl Chase. That's the real prize. That's the real celebration. 💛 To every father and every father figure who shows up, stays present, and loves out loud — you are SEEN. You are appreciated. You are needed. Happy Juneteenth. 🎙️ Today we celebrate freedom — and freedom is the whole reason behind everything I'm building. This Southeastern run — Atlanta, Fayetteville, Petersburg — is me owning all of it: the ticketing, the marketing, the music, the moment. That independence is exactly what FLO has always meant. For the Love Of doing it your own way and stepping into your full potential. The freedoms we have now to create and to own — I don't take a single one for granted. 🙏 Maxinn. 🎹 One of the very first tunes I ever recorded — it lives on my Lessons & Love record, and all these years later it still flows the same. I'll never forget the first time I heard it on the radio: a summer day in DC, walking Washington Circle between classes, from the law school over to the Georgetown business school. It was already FLOing back then. Live and chill in the basement with my favorite Yamaha grand — JJ Williams on drums, Lorenzo Sands on bass, Eddie Montalvo on percussion, riding that go-go cowbell pocket that's pure DC. 🥁 🙌 Thank you Atlanta — last night at Big Bethel AME was a blessing. TONIGHT catch me live — Juneteenth Joy & Father's Day FLO at The Ambiance of Fayetteville. Tomorrow we bring it to Cool BeanZ in Petersburg, VA.
