You don’t have a “knot” in your muscle.

You have a small area that’s been working overtime.

Repetitive movement, posture, and daily habits can keep certain muscle fibers turned on longer than they should be… and over time, that’s what creates that tight, sore feeling.

Your body isn’t random. It’s responding to how you use it.

Most people don’t know what fascia is… or that it even exists.

But fascia surrounds, supports, and connects everything in your body.

In this first video, I’m breaking down fascia in simple terms and showing you what it actually looks like.

This is maybe Part 1 of a new fascia series 💁🏼‍♀️

We’ll dive into how fascia may influence movement, recovery, tightness, pain, and much more in future posts. 👀

Most people feel something “tight”… and immediately try to stretch it.

But not everything that feels tight needs to be stretched.

Sometimes it’s:
• doing too much
• protecting something
• or picking up the slack for another muscle

So if you’ve been stretching the same area over and over, and it’s not changing… there’s probably more going on.

If it keeps feeling tight… you might be looking in the wrong place.

If you want to figure out why, I can help you.

Deeper pressure is not where massage should start.

If deeper pressure is applied before the tissue and nervous system adapt, the body often responds with protective muscle guarding, increasing tension rather than reducing it.

Muscle tissue and the nervous system need time to transition first.

Effleurage is used at the beginning of treatment to warm the tissue and increase local circulation. The gentle friction raises tissue temperature and causes vasodilation, allowing more oxygen and nutrients to reach the muscle fibers.

These strokes also stimulate venous and lymphatic return, helping fluid move back toward the heart and assisting the body’s natural waste-removal processes.

Equally important is the nervous system response. Slow, rhythmic contact activates the parasympathetic nervous system. This shifts the body out of a protective state and into one where muscles can actually release.

Massage isn’t just about pressure.

It’s about preparing the body so deeper work can be effective, and safe.

Most people think breathing just happens automatically.

But how you breathe changes what your body feels.

Chest breathing
You feel it in overtightened muscles, headaches, and stress.

Belly breathing
You feel it in relaxed muscles, lower blood pressure, and a calmer nervous system.

Your breath tells me a lot about what your body is holding onto.

Save this if you need a reminder to breathe with your diaphragm. taken in Lake Placid, Florida by @flowstaterecovery

Before a massage even starts, the body already tells a story 🔍

Breathing patterns.
Shoulder position.
Muscle tension.
Posture.

These small details guide how I approach every session.

Your neck is working overtime because of your everyday habits 😩

Phones.
Desks.
Stress.

Your body adapts 👎🏽 sometimes in ways that create tension.

Weak muscles ➝ Others compensate ➝ Those become overworked and tight ➝ The cycle repeats
