What we witnessed today was an act of War.

We witnessed the brutality of our comrades, the desecration of sacred life, and an absolute VIOLATION of legality and constitutional rights.

It is ILLEGAL to invade someone's private property and to do so WITHOUT a warrant and without any jurisdiction whatsoever.

Our resolve is clear - we will not be intimated and we will NOT be brutalized out of our objectives

We stand AGAINST ICE
We stand AGAINST the SEPARATION of families
We stand AGAINST ALL borders, from here, to Big Bend, to Palestine !!!
We stand AGAINST the DESTRUCTION of sacred life!!!
We stand against the violation of EVERY creature, animal bird insect sea creature and human alike to MIGRATE and MOVE

And while we MOURN the loss of this Grandmother Cottonwood, we NEVER forget to look and see ALL of the Grandmother Cottonwoods that stand ALL AROUND US down here in the San Rafael Valley.

The time is now to act, nothing has changed for land defenders here.

No music because I want you to hear what I hear as i sit underneath Grandmother Cottonwood, a sacred beacon of hope for resistance and peace down in the San Rafael Valley

As I sit, I hear birds singing merrily, their songs echoing up past the branches & into the leaves. Cicadas quiver above me, shaking their bodies and droning their own melodies. Crickets chirp occasionally, but they may be tired from serenading the valley throughout the night. It was a beautiful sunrise, the cows and the horses and the coyotes all chiming in their thoughts and songs as the sun slowly rose above the clouds.

As I sit under Grandmother, I look out across the cattle guard and into the valley, where "Mexico" is. But i do not see "Mexico", nor do I sit in "America" - I am simply home, carried by the Earth and the dirt beneath me. Grandmother's roots under me, pulling water and nutrients up into her branches.

As I keep gazing left, suddenly my view is interrupted: the 30ft wall creates a new scene as its columns block the rest of the valley to the East. In the middle of the road is parked one Border Patrol agent - he is there to watch us, to record our movements & surveil our actions. I remain in my ceremony, wondering if he's watching me at all or if he's just bored scrolling on his phone, hiding in his AC machine. I send him a prayer.

I send my hoop magic up to the courageous soul who sits in Grandmother's branches. We speak, we laugh, we encourage one another, and mostly, we share love. The love of nature, the love of life, the love of freedom. The love of our brothers and sisters across the valley, whose lives have been reduced down to nothing more than pawns. I weep for all of the families who have been separated, all of the people in cages, and all of the violence that has been unleashed in my country.

This wall symbolizes that violence. But right here, under Grandmother, I sit in peace and in love.

There are multiple acts of resistance happening right now across the southern border - here in Lochiel, down in A'al Vaipia (Quitobaquito) and in Tohono O'ohdam lands, and further East in Kónitsąąíí gokíyaa (Big Bend)

Coming back two days later, still in shock. I could only record the date, as I could barely even speak or think only breathe.

Today I think of the Olive Trees, the family members of the Palestinians, and I honor how their lives are also desecrated and dishonored by their colonizers, their oppressors.

Actually, the Grandmother Tree lives in all of us now, and she is asking us to spread her Leaves.

Javelina and Bobcats and Deer and Mice and Grasshoppers and Roadrunners and Quails - THE DESERT IS ALIVE

The US has no right to infiltrate a sovereign nation, to utterly destroy and desecrate its lands, just to build its walls. My resilience stands firm with the O'odham peoples!!!

We honor all the Indigenous of this entire hemisphere, from the arctic in so called Canada to the tip of Chile in the South - INDIGENOUS PEOPLES ARE STILL HERE, and we will remain here, protectors of the Land, our only home, and all of its creatures

They are working endlessly to build the wall to lock all land defenders on one side.

They have peppersprayed and pepper balled defenders, as they continue to detain and arrest and take us

And yesterday, a brave land defender locked down to a construction vehicle and was actively brutslized, VICIOUSLY, with a MAKESHIFT GAS CHAMBER being built with a foil emergency blanket. After this blanket was around our comrad, exhaust fumes were allowed to enter the compartment, to cause suffering, fear, and harm. This is attempted murder and this is torture.

Yet still we remain.

THEY ARE BUILDING THE WALL FOR US CITIZENS as well as the immigrants on the other side lf the south. I swear it you, this wall is also FOR US

WE NEED HELP !!!!! please message @rally.forthevalley or @tierralibre_noborders to come down and show your courage, your bravery, and your determination to stop this desecration against us all by @flowwwinn

A miracle!!!

New growth can be seen sprouting out of one of the downed Grandmothers!!! 🥹🥹☀️🌳🪾🌻

[UPDATE: This tree was sadly fully destroyed and removed when the last standing Grandmother Tree was murdered ]

Life persists, it finds a way, and even after being cut down, knocked down, roots torn from the ground, here she lies, STILL BREATHING, WATER STILL FLOWING through her veins to sustain NEW GROWTH. Even in her tragedy, she still supports the ecosystem around her - the grasses the grasshoppers the beetles the birds

We must have faith that we CAN CREATE world we want to see.

These little sprouts are a beautiful message of hope, persistence, resistance, and faith. May they continue to blossom and grow as our fallen Grandmother continues to heal

DAY OF ACTION this Sunday, October 4th, to stand in Solidarity across the Nation against ICE, against the Border Walls, against colonial and imperial oppression, and against the destruction of families, ecosystems, and our public lands!!!

A more in depth description from land defenders:

"Join us in Lochiel, AZ for a day of action against the border and in solidarity with the brave people of Vermont resisting ICE infrastructure.

Activites will start early, so come the night before if you can and camp! The parade will leave Grandmother Tree at 10:30AM. Bring costumes, banners, instruments, bikes, cars, and friends! After the parade there will be a panel discussion on data centers (2PM), followed by a Tierra Libre presentation (4:30PM). Our day will end with Sunset Ceremony (6PM) and will dance with a Torah under the sukkah!

We will gather at the Grandmother Tree
