As I was reflecting on this past semester, I was overcome with gratitude for my people. While the academic pursuits themselves weren’t particularly challenging, my life outside of school was probably the hardest it’s ever been. So this semester-ending post is dedicated to those people who saved me time and time again.
To @courtlawrence who took me to the hospital in January and stayed with me into the early hours of the morning. Who checks in almost every morning to make sure I am sleeping and am getting the things I need. My ultimate guardian angel.
To @gfluhman who has pulled all of the weight I couldn’t carry. Despite her own hardships, she has been there every moment to provide much needed laughter and Dutch bros dates and everything else.
To @lolo.hatch who basically let me move in with her when the only distraction I could find was in her perfect angel child, Hadley. For the sleepovers when I couldn’t be by myself, to the meals when she knew I wasn’t eating, to planning my birthday, to (between her, Grace, and Brennen) literally carrying me to the hospital at the beginning of this month and fighting the hospital people for me.
To @johnfluhman, who dropped everything to come sit with me when I was unstable and hysterical until he got here and talked me through it. Who has provided meds, snacks, and flowers when I needed them.
To my therapist, Steve, who saves my life every Tuesday at noon.
To @morgansgunter whose dialects class made me forget all my outside problems for an hour each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It was my one class I knew I could go to and be completely distracted from everything else going on and just be my happy, accented self.
To @holliefluhman and @spencerfluhman who, despite living an ocean away, have cried with me, supported me, and listened to me for hours on end as I continue to process where my life is at.
To @harryjlloyd for being the kind of friend who I could just drone on and on and on to and still come back with such thoughtful advice, validation, etc.
To @clarisse.austin @julia.inouye @jessica_zaugg @cjdoyel @haileycchristensen and the rest of the 260 puzzle gang. You’ll never know how much I needed yall 🫶🏻 by @fluhman

Since I never post or update anyone about anything: here are a few photos from this semester. It’s not over yet, but here you go anyway <3
Favorite parts so far:
Being in The Plan directed by Emma Giles
The entirety of my Character Mask class but especially seeing Ben’s biceps everyday
Having the most supportive classmates in Acting for TV/Film
IMPROV (I wish there was a career in improv for realllll)
TAing the intro to acting class and working one on one with each of my students
Having my favorite seminary teacher as my religion professor (brother heward has been teaching me for almost a decade now)
Being with so many talented people all of the time!!!!! by @fluhman

I don’t post much, or really get on Instagram much, but I wanted to talk about my dad on Father’s Day. Everyone who knows Spencer LOVES Spencer. He has had 3 back surgeries, several procedures, endless hours of physical therapy, etc. all in the last year. He has lived in excruciating pain every day for over a year now. And he is the best dad. Despite his ever changing health challenges, he never fails to offer support, love, and laughter. When I got into my program at BYU, he was telling everyone we met how proud he was of his daughter, often choking up (even in front of strangers, for getting into the acting program. No dad has ever loved his kids like he loves us. No dad has ever looked so cool with crutches, either.

I’d also like to note this Father’s Day that he wouldn’t be a dad if it weren’t for my mom. Through all of his surgeries, recoveries, and pain, she has been at his side, putting him and us and everything before herself. My parents make up an incredible and brave and bright pair. My mom is beauty and grace and a rock for all of us.

I’ll hop off the soap box now, but I had to gush for a minute or two. I’m praying everyday that someday he will feel relief and also thanking God that he’s my dad. taken in Arles, France by @fluhman
