Dark fantasy is where I’ve wanted my art to go for a long time.

This is my first dark fantasy illustration drawn with hatching and cross-hatching: a battle-worn Conan shaped through rough linework, deep shadows, fur and steel.

I wanted that old-school sword-and-sorcery feeling, but filtered through my own style. It’s still an experiment, yet it feels like the first real step into the fantasy world I want to build.

Who should enter this world next: a knight, a witch or a monster?

These are the things that helped me:

1. Stop expecting a finished piece from every session. Sometimes, ten minutes of drawing is enough. You don't owe the sketchbook anything.

2. Warm up. Two minutes of lines, circle and boxes will loosen up your muscles and improve your line work too.

3. If you can name the problem -anatomy, perspective, values- slow down and focus on being accurate and on precision

4. If you don't know what's wrong, make several quick versions of it and compare them. Quantity will help you spot it

5. Draw something nobody else needs to see, just for you. Practice is more important than content

One year later a redraw appeared
Where there used to be Takezo, now Musashi is in his place

That's the kind of change I want to bring to my art, and to this spot of ours

Sooo I stopped my 100-days challenge on day 43. Felt awful, like I was not up to it.

Drawing every day like that totally drained me

But we're so back! No countdowns this time, only lots of characters I like and want to draw

Btw Lodoss War is on the rise!
Lodoss's fans where are ya? XD
