Blue-tailed bee eater

The bird is skimming the water surface to drink or bathe mid-flight. Bee-eaters often fly low, dip their beak briefly into water, and continue flying without landing. This helps them hydrate, cool down, and clean their beak, especially after eating insects like bees and wasps.
Sometimes they also do this while snatching insects hovering just above water, making the moment look even more dramatic.

The rapid wing oscillation creates the characteristic buzzing sound at around 435 Hz frequency, while the figure-8 wing pattern generates enough lift to support the bee's body weight despite wings that are aerodynamically 'too small' according to traditional fixed-wing aircraft principles. This high-frequency wing motion enables precise hovering and rapid directional changes essential for nectar collection.

The Collared Owlet (Glaucidium brodiei) is one of the smallest owl species, found in the dense forests of Asia, particularly in the Himalayas, Southeast Asia, and parts of China. This tiny raptor, measuring around 15 cm in length, is known for its distinctive facial disk, white-spotted brown plumage, and unique "false eyes" on the back of its head, which help deter predators. Unlike many owls, the Collared Owlet is active during the day (diurnal), making it more visible to birdwatchers. It primarily feeds on insects, small birds, and rodents. Its high-pitched calls echo through the forests, making it easier to detect despite its small size. Capturing this elusive bird in a photograph is a treat for any wildlife photographer!
