𝑒𝓁𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓃 𝓈𝓅𝒾𝓇𝒾𝓉𝓈 unfolds through eleven sculptural drinking basins for animals distributed throughout the garden of the Goyki 3 Art Inkubator. Echoing Sopot’s eleven water springs, the work symbolically returns water to a landscape where it once flowed freely, reactivating forgotten hydrological and cultural memories.

Inspired by the portuguese umbigo-de-vênus plant, the project explores the idea of genius loci — the spirit of place, drawing on European folklore where water is associated with feminine, liminal presences and transformative power.
Rather than depicting these beings directly, the installation translates their presence into material forms through clay, hematite beads and engraving details, which act as protective symbolic elements.

Each basin functions as a receptive vessel that collects, shares and returns water to the garden, welcoming different species of animals, while reflective surfaces connect the sculptures to the sky, vegetation and unseen forces; dissolving the boundaries between the sculptures and the landscape.

Foi numa série de conversas organizadas pela AEFBAUL (Colectivo 18/36), entre 2013 e 2015, que desmistifiquei algumas ideias sobre o que significa ter uma carreira artística em Portugal. Numa delas, o Julião Sarmento revelou que teve várias profissões (fotógrafo de casamentos, segurança de discoteca, etc) enquanto mantinha o trabalho de atelier. Isso tranquilizou-me, porque já sabia que provavelmente teria de fazer o mesmo.

Venho de um bairro social da periferia de Lisboa. Fui criada por uma mãe que, sozinha e com muito esforço, me conseguiu colocar na universidade. O meu percurso começa com o esforço dela e continua com o meu. Onze anos depois de terminar a licenciatura, continuo a precisar de trabalhar noutra área para sustentar a minha prática artística. Não há mistério nisso. É a realidade da Cultura em Portugal e de 6547348 artistas portugueses.

Durante o meu Retorno de Saturno que, para quem não sabe, acontece quando se cumprem 29 anos — pensei em desistir. Às vezes, aquilo que recebemos de volta não chega e o cansaço instala-se. É normal. Mas há coisas que são automáticas, intuitivas, vitais. As minhas mãos precisam de fazer coisas. E por isso continuo.

É importante situarmo-nos e perceber o que acontece para lá do mundo ilusório do digital, bem como pensar em estratégias para sobreviver sem perder o entusiasmo. Apesar de virmos de contextos socioeconómicos distintos, há um momento em que nos encontramos e partilhamos coisas semelhantes. É por isso que considero tão importante este “full circle” que acontece amanhã.

Não vou mentir: uma parte importante desse entusiasmo vem também dos amigues artistas que acompanho e que me acompanham. As nossas alegrias são partilhadas e os nossos esforços de sobrevivência, infelizmente, também. Às vezes lembro-me do que o nosso querido Francisco Queirós nos disse, no último dia do último semestre: “Não sejam parvos, cresçam juntos.” E acredito que foi exatamente isso que fizemos.

𝐸𝑠𝑝𝑖𝑎𝑟 𝑎 𝑛𝑜𝑖𝑡𝑒, 2026

Between the inside and the outside, the active and the inactive, two discreet presences guard the threshold of the MUSEU’s space. The reproduction of the shutter-like objects, in their unique and distinct form, features two elements that, while reminding us of the original, utilitarian versions, reveal other possibilities. Small amulets hidden in the translucent fabric, almost invisible, like secrets sewn into the hems. Through their slits, the gaze tries to reach something in the distance but finds only a dark night.

In the opposite window, a light remains constantly on. Diffused and steady, it floats like a small suspended sun, quietly illuminating the interior as it projects onto the facing display and enters into dialogue with the variations of light and shadow that pass through it.

As the exterior light shifts, the two spaces enter into a subtle dialogue of brightness and shadow, never fully aligned. Between protection and silent vigilance, the two vitrines inhabit that uncertain moment in which someone tries to peer into the night, without knowing whether, on the other side, they too are being watched.
