FLUXWELLTV - An 18-year-old has filed a lawsuit against the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) and the City of Indianapolis, alleging false arrest, malicious prosecution, and civil rights violations after body camera footage reportedly contradicted an officer’s claim that he pointed a firearm at police.

According to reports, the teen spent four days in jail on attempted murder-related charges before prosecutors reviewed the body camera footage and dismissed all charges. The lawsuit alleges the arrest and prosecution were not supported by the available evidence.

The case will now move through the civil court system as the lawsuit seeks damages from IMPD and the City of Indianapolis. by @fluxwelltv

FLUXWELLTV - A man who refused to appear for his sentencing in a 2025 fatal shooting case was brought into court under Indiana’s newly enacted Senate Bill 9, marking one of the first uses of the law.

Allen County Judge David Zent accepted a plea agreement sentencing Devon Stewart to 55 years in prison for the shooting death of 86-year-old Alice Hall. Prosecutors said Stewart and another teen went to the home looking for someone they believed had stolen from them, but Hall answered the door and was fatally shot.

Officials said the new law ensured Stewart was present to hear victim impact statements from Hall’s family. His co-defendant, William Britt, is scheduled to be sentenced on July 28.

FLUXWELLTV - Two men have been arrested in connection with a July 6 shooting on Fort Wayne’s southeast side that left a 9-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl injured. Police arrested 24-year-old Davareion Gentry and 18-year-old Duane Stevenson III on Thursday.

Both are preliminarily charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, criminal recklessness, and shooting into an occupied dwelling. Investigators say the 5-year-old girl was shot in the leg and remains at risk of losing it, while the 9-year-old boy suffered an eye injury caused by debris from the gunfire.

According to court documents, detectives believe the shooting was retaliation for an earlier incident that left Gentry’s sister paralyzed. Police used Flock camera technology to identify the suspect vehicle before taking the two men into custody. Both remain in the Allen County Jail.

FLUXWELLTV – Organizers of the Aug. 1 “Mass Deportation Rally” planned in Fishers are reportedly still struggling to secure a venue, according to Indiana political analyst Abdul-Hakim Shabazz.

Shabazz said he has been told organizers are “still having trouble finding a location,” adding that “nobody wants to rent their hall for that.” Black Indy LIVE noted it has not independently confirmed whether a venue has officially been secured. Organizers previously said the location would only be shared with registered attendees shortly before the event for security reasons.

The rally, organized by Save Heritage Indiana, is expected to feature former U.S. Border Patrol official Greg Bovino as the keynote speaker, while Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith is expected to provide prerecorded remarks. The event has already drawn opposition in Fishers, with a separate Hoosier Hospitality March planned by groups supporting immigrant communities. by @fluxwelltv

FLUXWELLTV – A 24-year-old Indianapolis man has been charged with murder following the death of his 3-month-old daughter after investigators say she suffered severe injuries while in his care.

Police say Curtis Jenkins called for help on July 18, claiming the infant had overheated in his vehicle. Officers found the baby unresponsive, and she was rushed to Riley Hospital. Doctors reportedly discovered multiple brain bleeds and broken ribs, later determining the injuries were consistent with recent abusive trauma. The infant was pronounced dead on July 21.

According to court documents, investigators also recovered apartment surveillance audio that allegedly captured Jenkins yelling at the crying infant before loud noises were heard. Prosecutors allege the child became silent shortly afterward. Jenkins is being held in the Marion County Jail as the investigation continues. by @fluxwelltv

FLUXWELLTV – Newly released records obtained by The Probable Cause provide the first detailed explanation for the disciplinary action taken against Allen County judicial candidate Christina Gull earlier this month.

According to documents released by the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, Gull allegedly failed to review numerous assigned sex crimes cases for months despite repeated internal emails, conversations, and meetings. The records also state she requested last-minute continuances in two jury trials because she was unprepared, resulting in delays for both cases. As a result, Gull received a one-week unpaid suspension, was transferred to another division, and had her salary reduced.

The Probable Cause also reported Gull previously worked in the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office, where a separate child sex crimes case later resulted in a $105,000 sanction against that office over discovery violations. Current Hamilton County Prosecutor Joshua Kochar told the outlet Gull left that office voluntarily in 2022 and was not fired. Gull is currently running for Allen County Criminal Court judge.

FLUXWELLTV - Health officials are continuing to monitor a growing Cyclospora outbreak across northeast Indiana, with Allen County reporting the highest number of confirmed cases in the region.

As of the latest update, Allen County has reported 89 cases, followed by Steuben County (36), Elkhart County (36), Noble County (35), DeKalb County (25), and Kosciusko County (22). Health officials say the cases include patients ranging in age from 8 to 98 years old.

Cyclospora is a parasite that can cause severe diarrhea, nausea, stomach cramps, and fatigue. Officials are encouraging residents to continue eating fresh produce while properly washing fruits and vegetables and following safe food handling practices. Federal investigators also said an earlier concern linking Taylor Farms lettuce to the outbreak was determined to be a false positive. by @fluxwelltv
