As we wrap up our Airport Workers Day series this week, we’re taking you behind the scenes one last time, spotlighting the people and roles that keep everything running safely at YYC.

Every aircraft that lands leaves a small amount of rubber on the runway. Over time, that build-up can reduce grip, especially in wet conditions.

That’s where Alex and our Airfield Equipment Operations team come in. During quieter overnight periods, the runway is temporarily closed so they can remove built-up rubber and restore surface grip, helping keep operations safe around the clock.

Across YYC, it’s people behind the scenes like Alex, and so many others, who keep everything moving, no matter the hour.

What behind-the-scenes role should we show next? #AirportWorkersDay #AWD by @fly_yyc

Some impacts last longer than a day on the course. ⛳️ Thanks to the incredible support of our community, the 2026 YYC Charity Golf Classic raised $380,000 for @nimcally and @achfkids, creating an impact that will be felt long after tournament day.

While the tournament may be over, the impact continues through the important work these organizations do every day. Thank you to our sponsors, golfers, volunteers and supporters who made it all possible.

Special recognition to our diamond sponsor, @pcl_construction and our platinum sponsor, @WestJet, along with our gold, silver and birdie sponsors for helping turn a day of connection into meaningful community impact.

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we're honoured to share a first look at a new artwork by Piikani artist Kristy North Peigan.
Inspired by Blackfoot teachings, Treaty 7 cultures and the landscapes of southern Alberta, Kristy is transforming stories into a space that will welcome millions of guests each year.
Commissioned as part of YYC's Indigenous Reconciliation Strategy, the artwork reflects our commitment to collaborating with Indigenous artists to create spaces that celebrate, preserve and share Indigenous cultures and histories.
The finished piece will be installed in Centralized, ABC Security later this year. by @fly_yyc

It all started with a corridor for bridging terminals.

In 2011, GEC was brought in to YYC Calgary International Airport to complete a study to connect people between the existing domestic terminal and a new international one.

That first project became the beginning of a 15-year partnership, growing from handling bags to helping millions of people move, connect, and make their way through the airport.

Along the way, the work grew. So did the trust.

Today, that first corridor represents something much bigger: a lasting collaboration built around connection, care, and welcoming people on their way.

What happens when an aircraft experiences a bird strike?
At YYC, we don't wait for a real emergency to find out.
Every two years, we conduct a full-scale emergency exercise with our partners, testing everything from aircraft evacuation and medical response to fire suppression, emergency coordination and media management.
Because safety is at the heart of everything we do. by @fly_yyc
