Globlord is a part of the @writeclubnyc this weekend! It is chock full of video game jargon that director @alexhad
and choregrapher @margo_e0 turned into a dance. Like if Club Penguin held a rave but instead of dancing we are performing complex dodge patterns and everyone hates each other and loves each other and is dressed in pajamas and we are all having a really difficult time making male friendships because everyone keeps
speaking
to
each
other
like
birds
and saying the R word but it’s normal for gamers, right? Am I being catfished?

I wrote this play based off found dialogue from raging gamers for an @alexhad bake-off, and am so awe-inspired by what this team has done with it that I reinstalled this app for the weekend. Pls send me cat reel. Ticket link in bio 🎟️. -Jason

Some black and white moments from Jason Wang’s ( @flybippo ) work in progress at @performanceproject_us over the weekend. I’m so excited for the future of this piece. Let me brag about Jason for a minute (there’s so much to say): They were a student in my Intro to Theatre class at Hunter College (MANY years ago). They recently graduated from NYU/Tisch and have hit the ground running with MAP fellowships, grants, and is now an Artist in Residence at University Settlement. We have collaborated on many projects through @docblocprojects . I think they are one of the brightest emerging voices in theatre and someone to keep an eye on. It’s always an honor to be in the room watching their work. So proud. 🖤

We are in the Chain Theater One-Act Festival! 🎆

And by we, I mean a team of professional E-Sports players that hire a Korean Esports coach and revere him as a god. Find out what happens when Asian-American boys are left to their own devices (hahaha) and power is left unquestioned. You will not find liberation on your Korea Trip 2026. Only lies. And horsespeak. 🐎🗣️

DEAR YOUNGER SELF,

In 2025, STUY OR DIE will go on the tour of your dreams! You will have five performances across four boroughs, culminating in a sold out closing performance in a 330-seat venue that is just three blocks from your test prep center growing up.

To our audience at Flushing Town Hall—we are beyond grateful that y’all filled the house! While this year marks the end of STUY OR DIE for now, our younger selves are wherever we want them to be. STUY OR DIE will return, and we can’t wait for whatever the future brings.

Thank you to our incredible team for making this show as wonderful as it was:

We got featured on @epicenter_nyc on July 2, 2025!! 🎉

-—

Brian, Alex and Eileen spend two years congregating in a church basement-turned SHSAT test prep center with their instructor Jeanie, a Stuyvestant alumna herself. She challenges the idea that an elite high school like Stuyvestant is the only path to success, hoping to get each student and their parents to see the forest for the trees. While she does her job of helping each student improve their SHSAT score throughout the 80-minute show, she also encourages them to figure out their own dreams and motivations for why they want to score well in the first place — beyond wanting to earn love and approval from their parents.

It’s a lesson that resonated with Jason Wang, the playwright behind “STUY OR DIE” whose own experiences made up a core part of the show and presented themselves in the character Brian. As a 2018 Stuyvestant graduate, Wang spent 10 years preparing for the SHSAT himself and wanted to create this play to represent all the other New York City students who have similarly spent hundreds-to thousands of hours studying for it too. The show is the product of Wang’s own experience and those of many other SHSAT alumni interviewed, including cast members Matthew De Lorme and Ruponti Wazid, who play Alex and Eileen, respectively.

STUY OR DIE is an 80-minute theatrical production that follows three Asian-American middle schoolers as they prepare for one of the biggest experiences of their young lives: the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT). Set in 2014 and inspired by real stories from over 30 students, teachers, and parents, the play dives into themes of family pressure, identity, survival, and dreams — all through a mix of memory, imagination, and emotional truth.

——

STUY OR DIE is made possible in part with public funds from the Queens Art Fund, a re-grant program supported by New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by New York Foundation for the Arts (@nyfacurrent). This project is also supported by funds from the @themapfund , New York State Council on the Arts, Statewide Community Regrants Program (formerly the Decentralization Program) with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature, and administered by Flushing Town Hall (@flushing_town_hall), and through the assistance of a grant from the HEAR US program at New York University Tisch School of the Arts (@nyutisch) through the Tisch Initiative for Creative Research (TCR). Thank you to everyone that attended our workshop performance at @glownyc_org back in February! 🍎✨

We were so excited to share it with you despite it being a work in progress, and we were so honored that our first performance took place in Flushing, Queens, where it all began (for our playwright’s own test prep journey).

Thank you to everyone who gave us feedback and reflected on their own memories going through the same SHSAT system — and happy to see that like Jeanie said in the play, we all turned out okay. 👩🏻‍🏫

Special shoutout to @BigSibTutors , @linderax , @salpal.c , and @ashaqian for making our carnival portion of the aftershow super fun with a trivia wheel, vision board, and live portraits.

More exciting news to come!! 🎉

Sending all our love,

🚀Ermmm… Very excited to announce…. 🗣️🎙️
I am part of this year’s Create Change fellowship cohort of artists and cultural producers! The LP’s 2025 Create Change cohort is using art to tackle social issues head-on! From food insecurity to cultural erasure, artists are making a difference.

The LP envisions a world in which artists and neighbors in communities of color work together to harness the power of creativity that can inspire and initiate meaningful change and generate long-lasting impact. It’s my dream to bring interactive and accessible theater to communities of color all around NYC, and I’m honored to receive mentorship and resources to make that possible long-term 🥹. Thank you to my mentors at @_fabnyc @arimadillo_ @markwilson.jr for introducing me to the @laundromat_proj 🫣
