~Luck Dragon~

"Never give up and good luck will find you" -Falkor

Today’s bench project pushed fly tying into pure art. I spun and stacked deer hair to shape Falkor the Luck Dragon from The NeverEnding Story. Just like sculpting a fly, each clump of deer hair had to be trimmed, burned, and carved into curves that hinted at Falkor’s long snout, flowing mane, and curling body. Instead of a fish-catching pattern, this one is a story-catching piece—a reminder of childhood wonder and the way fly tying can become sculpture in miniature. Falkor, with his wide grin and cloudlike form, came alive in the vise, transformed from deer hair into fantasy.

🎨🐟 TROUT PLANET — DAY 4 🌎👹

Day 4 is in the books, and “Trout Planet” is really starting to come together! 🔥

I’m continuing to build up the Prismacolor layers on the 18" × 24" Ampersand Pastelbord, slowly adding more depth, color, and detail. Every layer is bringing the three Trout Monsters closer to the vision I had when I first sketched this piece live.

The colors are starting to pop, the background is taking shape, and I’m finally seeing the direction I want to take the water, sky, and overall atmosphere.

Still plenty of layering, blending, and detailing ahead, but this is where the fun really starts! 👀🎨

Four days in… and “Trout Planet” is coming alive! 🌎🐟👹
