#TDIF2026 Performing Artist Feature!

Jacob Regan @flyingfloorward presents “Ego Eimi (Ho On)” in TDIF’s lineup of performances.

Jacob Regan is a movement improviser, performance artist, and dance researcher currently on faculty at Sam Houston State University. His ongoing fascinations revolve around the phenomenological and biological accounts of movement improvisation and wondering what it means to improvise without free will. Jacob views dance as a synthesis between artistry and athleticism, values harmony between erudition and elation, and believes in the facilitation of creative environments conducive to fostering autonomous artists. His summer reading list includes East of Eden, Fahrenheit 451, and the next installment of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series.

Emmy x Macy, Apply Pressure and Wait

This is the first time we’ve set one of our duets on another pair and man oh man did these two deliver.

It feels so good to see a work change hands. Choreography lives in its doing. Hopefully, many generations and iterations of the things we love get to be danced. We’re stoked to help direct the pathways by which others can come to dance more. We get to make things, and pass them on, and isn’t that what our physical history is really about? The moving is never done. And what a glorious thing that is.

Ems and Mace— We adore you and are so thrilled you said yes to performing Apply Pressure. Thank you for your work ethic, artistry, and commitment.

J— Thank you for setting this entire dance and running rehearsals and managing tech and taking care of a neonatal cat at the same time. You are next level ❤️

Jessie and the BOOT Squad — Congratulations on a successful second year of Break-In. We loved working with you. The communication and organizational aspects of this engagement were particularly spot on.

This is Robert.

Jacob Regan is Robert. @flyingfloorward
And also that purple guy.

Robert is an everyman. He is content to go through the motions of life in the world of iTMRW until his companion robot, Jenny, awakens in him a sudden longing for “human” connection.

Watch iTMRW: The Film on 8/17 @2220arts
Jacob was an essential building block for iTMRW.

Jacob was an essential building block for iTMRW. He brought fun and over-the-top energy to the the team spirit, but when in character, he was fined-tuned and virtuosic, expressing Robert’s inner potential and growth through motion

Since iTMRW…
Jacob earned his MFA in Dance from Sam Houston State University, where he is now on the Department of Dance faculty. His work explores movement improvisation, the illusion of free will, and the ways philosophy can inform dance.
Jacob is also a committee member of the Texas Dance Improvisation Festival. He continues to choreograph new work, including a series of improvisational solos that he performs himself, as well as a repertoire of duets with his partner, Jen Passios.
He is also training to run the Rocky Raccoon 50-mile ultramarathon in February 2027.

Found this gem today in the computer archive while searching for something else.

The Dirt Pile Solo (unofficial name) is the first thing I made for @flyingfloorward back when I “didn’t choreograph.” (Please read as “was afraid of being bad at choreography and therefore avoided it.”)

It’s part of a longer work we made but never performed. A very pandemic thing to do.

We made a lot of stuff with no attachment in 2020.

Apply Pressure and Wait for @radfest_dance 2026

We love RADFest so much— The camaraderie is unmatched, our host families are always the best, friends from all over the country just happen to show up, and @aderanphoto makes us look good even when we’re running on 5 hours of sleep and an unexpected 300 mile round trip drive to Detroit. Magic all around.

Thank you @shsudance for supporting this opportunity to share our work on a national scale and represent the department that turned us from university students into teachers.

Dancing really is a wild thing. I still can’t believe we get to do this ❤️🫶
