A creative take on a classic lunge salutation. Give it a try, play with the transitions, and enjoy the full-body opening you get from this little ditty.

Aim for fluidity as you connect breath with movement, allowing the sequence to become a moving meditation.

Oaxaca really is the food capital of México, and this retreat includes a very flavorful demonstration of why that is!

Thanks to our favorite guide, Betsaida, we journeyed through Oaxaca City on foot, indulging in an array of foods that put this area of México on the map.

Quesadillas, tacos, tamales, mole, exotic fruits, coffee, honey, local cheeses, insects, mezcal, and ice cream were just a few of the things that delighted our palates.

To be fully present with the sense of taste is yoga in and of itself.

‼️ What makes a pose is organization, not depth.

Oftentimes in asana practice, organization is sacrificed for depth, when the reality is, it’s much harder to find structure once we’ve gone too deep, and much easier to find depth once things are well-tuned.

For example, in this propped-up Hanumanasana, bolsters are stacked, providing a real, solid sense of ground to plug into. Blocks or blankets can also be used. You can go as high as you need to go to plug the pose in. It’s like electricity: when there is good, safe contact, current flows through form. The goal isn’t to go deep just to go deep. It’s to find solid ground from which to rise.

If you try this, make sure you plug the center of the pelvis into the prop, not just the front thigh or back thigh. You don’t want to feel like you’re floating in space, or plugging just one leg in while the other works to hold it all together.

This pose can be a doozy, with the front hip in flexion and the back hip in extension, organization can fall apart quite quickly. But with props, the game changes. Being able to stay in a pose, fill it with breath, and run the mind through it is where the magic of asana really lies.
