Autumn
.
.
This has been the most spectacular Autumn I remember in decades.

The weather has been perfect! More than two weeks of low humidity, clear, blue skies, wonderful temperatures and no rain. @minnewaskastateparkpreserve @destination_ellenville #autumn #

And the colors! From the Adirondacks to the Catskills and just starting now in the five bars of New York City, we have been treated to reds and oranges that stand out against the crisp blue skies.

Get upstate, go for a walk, a hike, a jog. It’s well worth it! #autumn #fall #newyork @ulstercountytourism @sullivancountygov @sullivanchamber @iloveny by @flyingmanatee

Red Sky at Night
.
.
We’re always running from place to place. Work faster. Do more. Run, run, run.

Sometimes we need to just take a few minutes. Deep breath. Exhale. Repeat.

So as I was racing from point A to point B this evening, the setting sun told me to hop off the Cross Bronx in Washington Heights to watch the sky catch fire before the pink lights that mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month came on the bridge from New York to New Jersey.

Deep breath. Exhale. And remember:

-Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, with millions diagnosed each year.
-About 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
-Health guidelines advise that average-risk women begin annual screening mammograms at age 40.
-About 1% of all breast cancer diagnoses occur in men.

Eater X
.
.
From the Handschuh Archives.

RIP competitive eater Tim Janus, aka, “Eater X”,

Tim’s records included eating four pounds of tiramisu in six minutes, 10.5 pounds of ramen in eight minutes, 71 tamales in eight minutes, 7.7 pounds of boneless Buffalo wings in 12 minutes and 141 pieces of nigiri in six minutes.

He was a member of the International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE). Janus performed in contests wearing a painted mask and once stated, “I’d eat anything. One of my goals in life is to eat everything in the world at least once. I’d eat a roll of pennies if I thought I could set a world record. Some day I hope we make contact with beings from other planets. I’d love to eat alien.”

He died on September 16 after a battle with lung cancer.

Up, up and away. Out of LaGuardia and I thanked the pilot afterwards, for the climb out over the Bronx and the left turn just past Yankee Stadium.

What landmarks do you spot?
