Six years ago! This little guy changed my life without even knowing it.

Kai was only 6 years old, but his passion for fishing sparked something in me. Watching him fall in love with the ocean inspired me to chase a dream that has completely changed our lives.

Fast forward six years, and here we are, our fourth boat is finally in the water.

The new Rambo 27 is officially floating, and seeing her ready for adventures is a moment I’ll never forget. There were countless long days, late nights, setbacks, and sacrifices to get here, but every bit of it has been worth it.

None of this would have happened without a little boy who simply loved to fish.

Thank you, Kai, for being my biggest inspiration. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us next.

Great day on the water with our new friend Jamie! Our goal was to get him on some fish with the fly rod, so we headed offshore in search of good conditions.

Early in the day we found a nice current line loaded with debris and even a few big logs floating offshore. That was great news, I knew it had all the ingredients for mahi-mahi and triple tail.

We ended up landing three beautiful triple tail on the fly, which is always a special accomplishment. After that, we started trolling the area hoping to find some mahi, but they were nowhere to be found. We pushed farther offshore into cleaner blue water and spent some time trolling for billfish, but they just weren’t cooperating today.

Fishing was definitely on the slow side, but days like this remind us that every trip is different. Catching three quality triple tail on fly gear made the day a success, and it was an awesome experience to share with Jamie.

Our friends Lucas and Tatum joined us for a half-day offshore fishing trip. The day before, we had caught several mahi-mahi and raised a couple of sailfish, so we were excited knowing there was plenty of life in the area.

But fishing has a way of keeping you humble.

We arrived at the grounds and found no mahi. We switched our focus to sailfish, which was Lucas’s dream catch. For the next four hours, we trolled, searched, and worked hard to raise a fish—but nothing happened.

Our half-day trip was officially over, but we decided to stay out for just 30 more minutes. Thirty-two minutes later, we still hadn’t seen a sailfish.

At that point, I looked up to God and started talking to Him about perseverance. We had worked hard for this fish all day. My mate had already picked up most of our baits, and we only had one lure left in the water.

I turned to Zachary and said, “Give me two more minutes.”

As I was saying those words, a dark shadow appeared behind our Yo-Zuri Twitchbait.

“Zachary!!!” I screamed. “Ballyhoo in the water, now! Hurry!”

The sailfish followed that Yo-Zuri for nearly a minute before deciding to switch over to the ballyhoo. Then it spent another 30 seconds tracking the bait before finally committing.

The reel screamed, the fish lit up, and Lucas’s dream became reality.

Perseverance pays off.

Sometimes the reward comes when you’re ready to quit, when the gear is already being put away, and when nobody expects it anymore. Keep going. One more cast, one more minute, one more try—you never know when your sailfish is already swimming right behind the lure.

Awesome day on the water with our friends Xavier and Carlie! Our mission was to get some fish on the fly, and we made it happen.

The morning started off hot, catching a bunch of smaller mahi mahi on the fly. Later, we found a floating log holding some massive tripletail. Sight casting to this 18+ pound fish was incredible. He moved slowly and wasn’t very interested, but we had a couple slow follows where he came right up to the fly just to inspect it. We probably could’ve spent another 1.5 hours trying to convince him to eat, but he never fully committed.

After that, we pushed farther offshore looking for a sailfish. We raised several fish, but they would only come up, check out the teasers, and disappear.

Xavier’s dream was to catch a roosterfish. The inshore bite had been tough the last few days, and the waves were big, but we still had a few live baits left… and right at sunset, we finished the day with this beautiful roosterfish.

A great day in Quepos for the Peter Gorinsky Fly Fishing School. More than 30 kids, their parents and our awesome CRAFF volunteers had a killer time learning about fly fishing and fish conservation.

Thanks to the Sports Committee of Quepos and our donors for the day!

3 for 3 on Pacific sailfish! 🔥🎣

Stuart and his two sons, Ford and Harvey, went a perfect 3 out of 3 on sailfish during our 3/4 offshore trip. The bite was on early, and we made it count right away.

Later in the morning, we raised another three fish that came in hot but just window-shopped the baits and wouldn’t commit.

Mixed action the last couple of days!

Two days ago inshore we raised around 8 roosterfish 🔥 one of them ate but on conventional gear, not the fly. Still chasing that clean eat on the popper! We had a few looks and one solid shot, but no luck sticking them on fly. Also landed a needlefish.
Yesterday offshore started strong with a sailfish teasing perfectly right to the boat… but things got a little chaotic with crossed teaser lines and we missed our shot. After that it slowed down, with a few free jumpers but no commits.

Switched to conventional in the afternoon and made it happen 💪
Final count: 2 for 5 sailfish, 1 mahi-mahi

Mahi mahi on the fly!
Epic day yesterday with our new friends from Montana. We raised 10 roosterfish, and 2 fully committed, crushing the fly hard, but we just couldn’t get them to stick.

Plenty of action all morning, even if the roosters didn’t come tight. That’s just fishing, and that’s what keeps you coming back.

Finn and his dad are back at it with us today—let’s see if we can seal the deal this time 🎣🔥 taken in Marina Pez Vela by @flylegendfishing
