The Galley!! 🤿

Posh word for kitchen on a boat, that’s all it is. Somehow it always sounds more impressive than “let’s go look at where they made the toast.” 😂

Vis was impeccable in there today. Genuinely stunning. When we arrived, anyway... give it a few minutes with fins and bubbles and that story changes fast. 🤣

But the star of the show for me, every single time, is the Hobart mixer. Sat there since 1980, still looking like it’s ready to knock out a batch of dough. Every time I swim past it I think about the crew who used it, making bread on a working cargo ship with no idea what was coming. That’s the bit that gets me about the Zenobia. It’s not just a wreck, it’s a moment in time nobody chose to leave behind. ⚙️

The lower cargo deck. 💀

Not a dive you fall into. Not even close. 😎

This is serious overhead technical penetration. The kind of diving that demands everything you have and forgives nothing. Less light. More silt. Tighter gaps. The further in you go the more the Zenobia tests you. 🌊🌊🌊

But that’s exactly the point. Every dive on this wreck builds on the last. Each one a little more challenging. A little darker. A little tighter. Until eventually you reach the belly of the ship. 🤯🤯

The lower cargo deck. The pinnacle of the Zenobia. Reserved for committed technical divers who have put the time in, earned the skills, and proved they belong down here. This isn’t handed out. It never will be. 💪🏽💪🏽

And when you get there? Some of the best preserved cargo on the entire wreck. Untouched. Undisturbed. Extraordinary. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Does anybody else’s SAC rate slow down in the dark? 🙃😂

Just me? 😅😅

There’s something about being deep inside the Zenobia with nothing but a torch (or 4😅) and your own breathing that makes you very aware of every single breath you take. Suddenly your air consumption is immaculate. Funny how that works. 🤣🤣

But in all seriousness, nearly 50 years on the seabed and this wreck is still giving. Still revealing. Still finding new ways to make you slow down, switch on, and pay attention. 🌊🌊🌊

That’s the thing about the Zenobia. She’s not finished. Not even close. The more time you put into her the more she gives back. New details, new routes, new moments that remind you why this is considered one of the greatest wrecks on the planet. ⛴️⛴️⛴️

Almost 50 years down there and she’s still got plenty left to give. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

No diving today, so throwback to one of my favorite dives in the Dominican Republic last year, “La Jeringa” cave, with @the_art_of_diving.

It appears I accidentally filtered my light through my pink nav markers, painting the entire cave pink, and @truepash captured the moment beautifully.
