For the 5th episode of our Focal Podcast, we’ve invited the Chilean artist Sam Wilson.

Known for his unconventional take on atmospheric, deep, hypnotic techno, Sam has performed at top venues in Chile, Argentina, and the UK. His production portfolio includes over 30 releases on notable labels.

Beyond his activities as a DJ and producer, Sam is a key figure in the scene as an event organizer and label owner. He founded @blackspot.cl in 2019, organizing over 50 events, and launched @dosisrecords in 2021, boasting over 25 releases by notable artists.

We’re excited to present Focal. 04 by @jeroclares. Jero is an Argentinian based DJ, Producer and owner of the label @continuumchronicles . Jero started DJ’ing on vinyl and CDJ’s in 2020, after which he quickly dove into electronic music production. He came to our attention because of his first releases on @_t_r_e_m_s_i_x_ by @jonas_kopp_ , and he has since collaborated with labels such as @r3volution_michelemausi and @tmm_recordings
 His contribution to our podcast series features the sound we’ve come to expect from him based on his production work: powerful, dark, sci-fi techno. We hope you enjoy listening!

For the 3rd episode of the Focal. Podcast, we’re happy to present a mix by Esteban Miranda, a talented DJ and producer from Colombia.   Esteban Miranda started his career as a DJ in 2017, and soon after, he jumped into music production. His unique sound has caught the attention of labels worldwide and his tracks are played by renowned artists.

We’re excited to present a new contribution to our podcast series today: Focal. 02 by Unclear.  
Unclear (full name Paolo Bianco) is a an artist from Bari, Italy who’se been passionate about hypnotic techno for many years. Other than dj’ing and producing with his solo project, he’s part of @the_alchemical_theory (along with @killacidonspace & @oyvind_subosc ) and the owner of @cultural_corner .
 Unclear’s provided a mix focused on dreamy, soothing hypnotics which occasionally features obscure, dark elements. His refreshing track selection and the consistent storytelling throughout the mix prove his knowledge and experience of hypnotic techno!

We definitely had a smile on our face as we finished listening to this set. Hope you’ll enjoy it just as much! 🖤

We’re looking forward to welcome @adjustbe_ofc to Rotterdam this weekend! The Antwerp/Belgium based DJ and producer will be playing at Focal Point from 19.00-20:30 coming Sunday.  Adjust (BE), full name Ruben Truyen, came to our attention because of his quality production work. According to him, producing is a very emotional experience and a creative way to express his state of mind. With a history as a producer of melodic techno, he shifted his focus towards darker, hypnotic techno in recent years. Having released on labels such as @bahn.records, Gods Planet (@ness_tgp ), @kvltorecords and @linderluftrecords, this shift in focus is clearly paying off.
 Other than DJ’ing and producing himself, Adjust (BE) offers a platform for other DJ’s with his hypnotic/deep-techno exclusive podcast called ‘Anhera’ which translates to ‘Darkness’ in sanskrit. Every full moon or solar eclipse, he asks an artist he respects to contribute a set to the series. taken in MONO by @focal.point___

We’re happy to present Focal. 01 by
@ancestrallandscapes, which is the first episode of our new Focal. Podcast!

The Focal. Podcast will focus on the sound we appreciate the most: hypnotic techno with dark and atmospheric elements accompanied by a focus on full, round kicks throughout the set.
We will use our podcast to work with and showcase artists we admire but are unable to host in one of our (livestream) events.

We’re more than happy to have Ancestral Landscapes kick off the podcast series as his DJ sets and production work prove him to be an expert in the dark, hypnotic sound we will be curating.
We will be posting a tracklist of his set as well as as more background on the artist next week.

To be clear, the start of our podcast series does not mean we will stop organising streamed events @mono_rotterdam! There will be some slight changes over time in how we do so, the first one being that events will take place on Sundays instead of Wednesdays from now on. We really enjoyed the social aspect of our first editions and we believe sundays are much better suited for coming by and connecting in person.

As we step into 2024, we’d like to take a moment to extend our best wishes to you all, and to thank you for your support in 2023! We took some time during the festive period, but we’d like to share these pictures taken during the last edition of Focal Point along with Hypnosis.  We will be announcing the next Focal Point livestream shortly. We’ve been working on some other projects for the upcoming year as well, such as a Focal Point. Announcing the final artist partaking in December 6th’s Focal Point x @hypnosis.rdm : @vandtor.

Vand is the artist name of the Utrecht-based Viktor van der Riet. Viktor’s path into electronic music started about 10 years ago, when he first got into music production. Nowadays, he is active as a dj, producer and live act although he would rather describe himself as an all round musician. In his tracks as well as his (live) sets, he feels it’s important to grab the attention of the listener and progressively guide them through storytelling with a recognizable artistic twist.

Vand is a part of the @isotoop collective. As he was looking to start his own label and Isotoop founder van Anh decided to focus on other endeavours, Vand recently took a more leading role within Isotoop instead. With Isotoop, he and the other members of the collective aim to offer a platform for music that fits within their taste. Although they do not want to exclude any music genre wise, the platform and label focuses on the deeper realms of techno, electronica and ambient.

If you take a look at his discography, it’s easy to tell that Vand likes to collaborate with other artists when active in the studio and beyond.. When asked about this, he explained that working solo can be a great way of emotional self-expression but he prefers to collaborate as he simply has more fun doing so. Other than that, he believes the quality of his work improves through collaboration as he learns from other artists in the process. Also, the results turn out more refreshing when different perspectives come together.
