As a first-generation Liberian-American, Johnette N. Karpeh has proudly hosted her annual July 26th celebration since 2011, beginning with a small dinner at Zoewee’s Liberian Restaurant with close family and friends. Over the years, it has grown into an intentional gathering and a loved tradition that connects and unites people from all backgrounds to celebrate and learn about Liberia.

This event has been her way of sharing culture and building bridges. In 2025, she honored three Liberian restaurant owners who are respected community leaders, whose establishments serve not only as places to dine but also as spaces that keep the community connected and create belonging for everyone, whether Liberian or not. Each has made a lasting impact on Charlotte and contributed culturally to the city.

We did not know that 2025 would be Johnette's last time hosting her annual event. She was adamant about giving honor, highlighting the youth, and telling the story of Liberians' contributions to the city of Charlotte.

Johnette, you have built an amazing legacy over these past 15 years. Congratulations on a job well done! ✨✨✨

I sat down to shoot this video thinking we just crossed half a million. My team had to correct me on camera. 🤯 650,000 streams in 3 months.
I’m an independent R&B artist. No major label machine, no massive playlist placements just handed to me. Just real music, and all of YOU actually listening, sharing, and connecting with it. I can’t even process how fast this is moving.
Because of this momentum, I got the call. On July 31st, I’m making my NYC debut headlining at SOB’s.

Taking you behind the scenes of the new promo for **Red @ 28th**. 🎬 From the initial cuts to the color grade, the speed ramps, and the AI-generated title cards — every detail was built to make this feel like a real welcome home moment. 🏠🔥

This one was a team effort and I have to give credit where it is due. I reached out to @iamdonaldwilson to lock in the drone footage and some of the interior building shots. I was behind the camera too, but when you bring in another talented creative, the whole project levels up. We get to the bag together. 💰🤝

That is the real lesson here — stop trying to do everything alone. Collaborating with other creatives does not take away from your value, it multiplies it. **Collaborating creates more.** Remember that.

I asked what he did. He told me. I nodded like I understood. I thought I hit record.
I didn’t.
His name is Doug Allison. He’s 29. He grew up in Westlake Village, California — West Coast, same as me. He went to school in Sydney, Australia at the University of New South Wales, won Complete Hockey Player of the Year, and helped his club win three straight Sydney Premier League titles.
Then I looked him up.
Turns out Doug plays for the US Men’s National Field Hockey Team. He earned his first international cap on March 1st of this year — representing his country on the world stage. He’s been in the US national system since he was 14 years old.
I was standing at a boardwalk in Charlotte, NC talking to a national athlete — and I missed the clip.
But I didn’t miss the portrait.

Day 3 of 1,000,000. 📸
I was riding through Uptown when I spotted Carter Seate (@carter.seate outside his shop and knew I had to stop.
Carter is the co-owner and buyer at FarReach Vintage (@farreach.vtg) — one of Charlotte’s most respected vintage boutiques, located at 604 W. Morehead St., walking distance from Bank of America Stadium. He co-founded the shop with his business partner Christian Thropp while still a teenager, building it from a side hustle reselling Pokémon cards outside Target into a full brick-and-mortar store that has become a destination for Charlotte’s streetwear and vintage community.
FarReach isn’t just a store — it’s a curation. Carter and Christian source everything themselves: true vintage from the 50s and 60s, military and workwear, 90s sportswear, band tees, jerseys, and one-of-a-kind pieces you genuinely cannot find anywhere else. Every item in the store is a story. It felt right to upgrade the portrait of someone who spends his days finding stories worth wearing. 🧥
He looked at the back of the camera and said “Ooh, that’s clean. I f*** with that.”
That’s the reaction I’m chasing every time.
