Looking ahead to March 2027.

As we savour crisp fall days and enjoy this season's final weeks, we're already thinking of next year. In March, days begin to lengthen, pack ice hopefully returns to the horizon, and Fogo Island Inn reopens its doors.

Over three days on Fogo Island, artists, designers, and thinkers came together to explore human-centred making and the specificity of place.

The season of the partridgeberry.

Also known as lingonberries, these reddish-purple berries grow across Newfoundland and Labrador's barrens and coastal headlands. Once picked after the first frost, they make their way in jams, preserves, wines, and desserts.

On Fogo Island, their arrival signals the start of the fall harvest, a moment celebrated with a community festival, the Partridgeberry Harvest Festival, where the island's culinary traditions meet its culture of crafts.

This year, makers showcased their hand-made creations, Shorefast shared their Foodways and Environmental initiatives, @fogoislandarts invited attendees to get crafty, and everyone enjoyed baked treats and autumnal dishes from the culinary teams of @loafland_nl, @bangbellybistro, @growlersicecream, @fogoislandinn, and more. by @fogoislandinn

Welcoming baker and private chef @matthewjamesduffy to our kitchen.

Last weekend, Chef Duffy joined our team to prepare our daily sourdough, develop some partridgeberry and apple pastries for @growlersicecream, and share his love of baking with our guests.

A few days of baking and sharing ideas lead to the kind of unexpected culinary exchange we're always happy to make room for.

If these walls could talk.

Ernst Hupel’s story with Fogo Island began when he joined Fogo Island Inn’s original design team, helping shape our distinctive character and bring spaces to life.

Over the years, he has cultivated lasting partnerships with like-minded collaborators, such as Christopher Farr Cloth, who reimagined four wallpaper patterns found within the Inn, in their iconic colourways.
