Using a vintage material and adapting it to make it sing again is such a joy! These particular designs were silk screen and hand painted curtains made in the 1908s and the client wanted to reuse them somehow. The material was in quite a sorry state so I salvaged what I could and made borders out of them, mounting them onto new material to add freshness. First cutting them up and piecing together what we had, turning under all the edges then hand tacking them to the new material ~ a lovely extra wide cotton. Choosing fabrics has to be one of the best parts of running a soft furnishings company, and seeing how it completely transforms the space. Here are some colours I put together to help clients with ideas. Changing the scale of a stripe for instance or mixing them together can work so well. Double pinch pleat header in motion on metal black pole. These were for a cottage so I made the header shallower to keep the cottage proportions looking nice. Little peek at making pinch pleats~ this is one of the only bits of sewing I do on the sewing machine! The rest is all done by hand 🪡 but I find this bit quite satisfying. I was thrilled with how this room divider curtain worked out! A lovely print on the side that faces the sitting room and then a washed natural linen on the side that faces into the snug area, also making it dark and cosy for watching films. The edges are all pressed in towards each other and slip stitched by hand so that both sides of the material comes right to the edge. Bit of pleat prep, making single pleated header for some very long linen curtains. This particular linen was very wibbly wobbly so they were quite tricky to train and get the pleats straight and in line with the stripes, but they draped beautifully when hung. #bespokecurtains #singlepleatedheader #curtainheader #handmadecurtains #madetomeasurecurtains by @fold_interiors
