Tempest @tempestbicycles are building the first Australian-made production FOLDEEs. Customer 001, @lachiejm, will be receiving his frameset in the next couple of weeks.

This is truly exciting news. Not only are we thrilled to be collaborating with Tempest but this model is a seriously nice bike sitting at the very apex of the FOLDEE family for very good reason. It boasts…

- Columbus chromoly
- Fully fillet-brazed
- A new, innovative folding system
- Completely handmade in Australia

Resulting in a frame that is light, strong and beautiful to ride. Importantly, it’s one that has been designed and made right here. There’s something pretty damn satisfying about seeing our first production frames being made locally. It’s been a long road getting to this point, but well worth it.

Buying local brings a myriad of benefits. Apart from keeping the profits here, it supports local makers and manufacturers, builds skills and capability. It also helps build community.

(We’re keeping a small number of framesets in stock so if you live in Australia and are considering buying a cargo bike, this could be for you.)

FOLDEE x KAAPI

My long term collaborator and friend Tim’s latest design FOLDEE is Australia’s first folding cargo bike.

This one's the prototype hand built locally which I'm trying out at the HQ as the KAAPI chariot ;) for first mile deliveries from our operations HQ to the Post Office and for other local drops and hauls!

What if a cargo bike could carry more, ride like a bike, and still fit into your everyday life?

@foldee.cc was developed in Melbourne around a simple idea: combine the practicality of a cargo bike with the compactness of a folding bicycle.

The project began with experiments in a small workshop, testing whether a cargo bike could remain stable, natural to ride, and capable of carrying serious loads while incorporating a folding mechanism. The concept evolved through prototypes, real-world riding, repeated testing, and constant refinement.

The result is a cargo bike built around a double-hinge folding system, allowing the bike to become significantly more compact in seconds. The design is intended for the realities of urban life: apartments, elevators, public transport, tight garages, everyday commuting, and carrying everything from groceries to children or equipment.

A cargo bike that doesn't ask you to compromise on space.

One of the least glamorous parts of bringing a bike to market is creating all the documentation that goes with it.

E.g. every FOLDEE will ship with its own user manual and we’re currently turning photos into simple technical illustrations to help explain the folding process.

Not quite as exciting as designing the bike itself... but still important.

What an incredible launch at @crumpler last night!

It was fantastic to officially launch our new website, foldee.cc and finally show off the new FOLDEE models here in our hometown of Melbourne. The new website is now live, so please take a look - we’d love to hear what you think. We’re also incredibly excited about the first new FOLDEE bikes hitting the streets next month!

SIDE QUEST #001
One less shopping trolley in the Yarra. One more idea for a FOLDEE.

This trolley had clearly spent a fair bit of time in the water before we fished it out.

Rather than letting it rust away, we thought we'd see if we could give it a second life.

Over the coming week we're transforming it into a custom cargo crate for a FOLDEE and other goodee’s - that will be on display at @crumpler very soon. It's a fun little experiment in circular design - and a reminder that sometimes the best materials are the ones we've already got. When the series is finished we'll auction it all off, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Yarra Riverkeeper Association and 1% for the Planet to help support cleaner waterways and a healthier planet.

Thanks also to @colessupermarkets for building a trolley tough enough to survive the Yarra... now let's see if it's tough enough for another life on a bike.

How nice would it be to have one of these parked in your driveway?

Okay... technically it doesn't need a driveway. It folds up and happily lives in an apartment, hallway or cupboard. But still...

What's next for FOLDEE?

Winning a Eurobike Award in Frankfurt was a huge milestone for us, but in many ways it feels like we're only starting.

After Frankfurt, we spent a couple of weeks travelling through Europe, catching up with customers, industry partners and other stakeholders. It was an invaluable opportunity to hear firsthand how people see the future of urban mobility and where FOLDEE fits in that landscape.

Now we're back in Australia and straight back to work.

We're now busy fulfilling orders, refining our Shopify store, developing new components, and building our next generation of Australian-made bikes (like Loop's concept bike in pics). As always, we're continually testing, learning and improving every detail of our products.

We're also excited to welcome John Zopfi @johnzopfi to the FOLDEE team. John will be leading our European sales and business development, helping introduce FOLDEE to riders, retailers and partners across the continent.

Welcome aboard, John - we're looking forward to the journey ahead.

You are looking at one of our Taiwanese steel production samples.

This is the view that your cargo load will have (from your adventure gear to the market run veggies and more) securely carried, enjoying wherever the journey is taking you both.

We're getting closer. Production is about to begin, and steel FOLDEEs will soon be available (in any colour as long as it is black) across Europe and Australia.

A massive shout out to friends of the Flock, @foldee.cc for taking out the Startup award at @eurobike_show this year. You may have seen the Foldee with Adam and Tim at @spoken.bike the other week, we were looking after one while Foldee Tim (yes, another Tim) was over in Frankfurt accepting his award. First proper ride on it was a blast... Iooking forward to sharing more. by @foldee.cc
